So the wife, rugrat and I went to Safeway today. We had the cart loaded up with frozen perishables and got in line behind an Asian lady with just a couple of items. The cashier rings up the Asian lady's stuff, totaling $10.34. The lady slides her card and it doesn't go through. The cashier looks and the lady pushed the gift card button... K. Simple mistake. The cashier asks her if she's paying by gift card and the lady stares at her like she has lobsters crawling out of her ears and holds up her card, never saying a word. The cashier pushes debit/credit and the lady slides the MasterCard again. DECLINED. The cashier tells her the card was declined and asked if she wanted to run it as credit. Again, the 1000 yard stare from the Asian lady. So the cashier takes over and helps the lady run it as a credit card. Again, DECLINED. The cashier and the lady now get into a battle of wills as the cashier tries to explain her card was declined and ask her if she has another card to use. The Asian lady is clearly flustered and just waves her card around and keeps exclaiming, "I pay." There are many mulch-cultural employees at Safeway and the cashier asks her what language she speaks in the hopes of getting someone up there to explain the situation. The response... Blank stare followed by another, "I pay." This linguistic tango continues for another 2-3 minutes when my wife asks me if we should just pay for the Asian lady's stuff so we can get our 2-year old and our Drumsticks home before both have a complete meltdown. As we're chatting with the cashier that we're going to pay for the lady's groceries, the lady walks over to the cashier on the next lane and tries to explain the situation with Oscar award winning pantomimes and "I pay." The 7ft tall black guy has no idea what's going on and just shakes his head. Our cashier attempts to tell the lady that we're going to pay for her groceries. This takes another 9 attempts before she sheepishly comes back to her cart of groceries. I tell her, it's ok, you can go and the cashier prints out her receipt as "proof of payment," to the lady. She tentatively walks away with a farewell, "I pay." Our transaction takes another 5 minutes and as we're walking out, there's the Asian lady in the vestibule looking through her bags and checking it against her receipt. Clearly she had no idea what just transpired.
Also, I know this is going to pop up as, "Well, maybe she was just visiting." Probably not. 1. She was in Tracy, nobody visits Tracy. 2. She had a CA driver's license... I saw it in her wallet as she was waving her MasterCard around.
In retrospect, it was probably a scam to get people to pay for her groceries.

She bought that license N found that card. But seriously she needs to atleast learn basics my grandparents may not speak english almost at all but they got their basics down.

Your old is a mess for willing to pay for idiots stuff! Tell her she owes you a steak! I had a run in with Asian driver lady today she blocked 2 lanes on del paso tryin to turn left while the light turned 2 times!!!!! Maybe she was your idiots cousin!!
Sad thing is I bet they both have cushy state jobs maybe DMV or CPS!!!

Damm I feel you on that one willit, I had several encounters like those when I worked for wells fargo, really hard to get through to them sometimes there is a huge language barrier. That was nice of you guys to do and I'm sure she didn't even know what the hell happened but at least you guys were on your way out lol so its all good.

I bet that same lady got her in car, put her boba fett mask on, cut off another driver while talking on her phone and then stopped at a green light causing an accident and getn read ended....
<edit> sorry guys, im not an internet thug so i do apoligize for that racist comment i've stated and deleted it. guess i got a little upset when i was in ranch 99 yesterday and this chinese women tagged me in the elbow with her shopping cart from behind trying to get through and kept going without even apologizing, yes she notice it was a stinger. my wife saved me from what would have been every cuss word in the book coming out my mouth so i guess i let a little of that emotion come out on here. i am flip and yes even flips cant drive hence i used the word all asians so nothing directed to any specific asian. should have worded it diff, so sorry folks(stangin,jurgnot,dlo). im an angel trust me and no, i dont give a crap about pacman..

Class act, Wil. I understand that not everybody may be talented or smart enough to become proficient with the language, but for crying out loud, at least learn a couple basic phrases and words! I can't stand that California caters to immigrants who refuse to learn the language and handicaps them even more by giving out tests in 10 different languages, or ballots with the same. You have way more patience than I could say for myself.

Hey buddy, my dad came to America with nothing but his family. He learned the English language, ran paper routes, and actually drove semi trucks for a while to make ends meet. So don't tell me that not all Asians can drive - he also didn't raise me to become a total asshole, so I'm pretty sure he isn't too rude either.
That boba fett mask is funny as hell though. I can't stand those things. Which reminds me, I think I'm going to have to get one to mess with people!
