I've been doing a LOT of thinking.. what would you guys rather have on your car a Supercharger or a Turbo???

I really like a blower since I already have one but dang I'm seriously thinking of selling it and going turbo instead...

Superchargers are Carb legal so thats the only thing keeping me from parting with it...

Do any of you turbo guys have problems with getting sent to the state ref for having a turbo?????

Help me decide what direction to go... [Confused] [Confused]

I Stayed away from a turbo and went with a supercharger due to all the pipes. Im decent with a welder but cutting all the extra exhaust pipe would have been a bitch. if you can find a complete kit then it might be worth it.

Ive owned a turbo mustang and a supercharged one as well, I'm assuming your on the younger side, with that being said, superchargers are better for daily drivers, I believe in your other thread you stated that you daily this car. You'd be able to make more power with a turbo but you'd need to get your entire setup dialed in prior to just "bolting a turbo kit on and being fast", just advice and don't take this the wrong way, by be patient, wait until you get a better job to be "fast", enjoy your mustang now for what it is and for gods sake stop eating top ramen, not really worth it to be "fast", its just car, go out to eat a good dinner and be content with what you have, I know it's hard to understand when you are younger, but if your eating top ramen I don't think you can afford to own a turbo mustang, bottom line, no matter how you spin it.

Yellow94GT never touched anyone's sig or banned anyone, so I'm going to quit spreading that rumor. It's not like I have any proof anyways. All yellow94gt and other mods have done is volunteer their time to help other people buy/sell parts, learn how to make their cars go faster and meet fellow enthusiasts. I'm a hater, but it's hard to hate on these facts. I have saved hunrdeds, maybe thousands of dollars here buying and selling parts over the years alone, but I don't care, this website owes me damnit, and I'll piss on it as much as I want. Us haters gonna hate. Why contribute to something when you can take for free?

Yea I appreciate your input bro, I won't take it the wrong way.. To be honest the job that I work at now is something that most CAFORDER's will be happy to have, I just don't consider it much since I'm still going to school.. By eating the Ramen it just cuts down on spend $15-20 a day on food.. I do mix it up every once in a while..

I understand the whole concept of needing a tune and all supporting mods.. even with the blower I'll be having a complete fuel system and a dyno tune... I'd never go Forced Induction of any kind w/o supporting mods and a dyno tune...

Yea your right, the car is my daily driver right now... I wish it wasn't, but to be honest I won't have another car for aew months till after I complete the build..

How'd you like the turbo stang of yours? what are your reasons for not daily driving one? does it put a lot of stress on the car?

Thanks for all the input guys.. this is really helping me make a big decision

Be prepared to spend big money 10-20k to have a dependable turbo car, there fun but I believe it's something that's out if your budget right now. As you can see I'm trying to steer you away from a turbo, you need lots and lots of money and a really good set of jackstands, because that's where it will spend most of its time, unless you put it in a shop and pay for all the good stuff the first time around, but I don't think your there financially, so enjoy your blower.

It's actually a legit question. For me, I say supercharger. Turbos will make more over all power but in the world of street driven Mustangs a supercharger has some distinct advantages.

1) Quality

this may be up for debate but given the questionable knock off turbos out there I say stick with known quality unless you are willing to wait and save for a quality American made and engineered product.

2)packaging

I really don't like the cross over pipe on single turbo setups. Running a 800 degree exhaust right under or in front of my oil pan just sounds like a recipe for premature oil failure on a street car. Given that the same oil is used to lubricate the turbo it's self it seems like a loose/loose to me. Twin setups are no different in that you are packing 40 pounds of 800 degree exhaust turbines into a space the size of your glove box.

3) reliability/cost

Given the excess heat and questionable origin of the components, coupled with what is expected of a stret driven setup I have to assume much more frequent oil changes will be the order of the day but the cost is not only limited to routene maintinance. A 7 quart oil pan must be considered part of the cost of admission as well as these changes will have to take place every 2000 miles running full synthetic oil. The havoc this heat will inflict on all other under hood components will have to be accounted for as well. Long term cost is elevated and not by enough to offset the power difference.

4)misconceptions

True, some of my concerns with aftermarket turbo kits may be a tad overkill, understand this, you can blow your car up, split your block, blow a head gasket, etc.. naturally aspirated just as easily as with forced induction. With the right components and tune you will be able to make a turbo live on the street. I just wouldn't recommend it.

per lb of boost the turbo will make between 10 to 15% more power. Is it worth the hastle? maybe, if putting food on your table is directly related to how quick your car is. If not, go with what you know works for your intended application.

Making the decision to go FI has in fact led many to bad grades, divorce, and termination of employment.

I agree, you can't get to school with a car sitting on jackstands, well you could take the bus, or sell your rims to buy a beater since you won't be needing them.
