My department has 5 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sports for our company vehicles. We've had them since 2001 when we got them brand new. Right now, all 5 of them are either in the shop for repairs or just go out of the shop.
1. My Jeep blew the pinion gear. Been waiting on parts for the past 4 weeks. 2. The floater Jeep had it's battery die on my 2 weeks ago. Had it replaced and now the crank position sensor went out. It's in the shop now. 3. Co-worker #1's Jeep is at the dealer fixing a ton of oil and coolant leaks. 4. Co-worker #2's Jeep wouldn't start last night. It cranks, but won't catch. It's on it's way to the dealership right now. 5. Co-worker #3's Jeep broke a blade off the fan. The off-balance destroyed the fan clutch. The AC compressor also took a crap. It just got out of the shop 2 days ago. [ October 07, 2010, 04:22 PM: Message edited by: wilit ]

Jeep is a Chrysler product, did you see the news story where all the workers that were bailed out by our taxpayer dollars were getting drunk and high on their lunch breaks and then coming back to work later?

You didn't have to go through all this. All it would have taken was asking people what they think of Jeep. Like Ranger Rover, it has a terrible reputation for reliability.

^^^ +1000 on Land Rover!! My girl had a 2002 freelander. That car was always breaking down. The last time it was fixed, she pick it up and drove straight to a dealership and traded it in.

All our vehicles are coming up for replacement. The sucky thing is, I think we're getting more Jeeps. My co-worker in Seattle had hers replaced last year and she got a Jeep Liberty.

My buddy Joe had a jeep in high school... the Reverse went out on it, so he always had to park in a way so he could drive forward to leave...

I disagree with you on this one, I had a 98' limited grand Cherokee my dad bought it with 15k on the clock and sold it to my uncle with 230k never once did we have any trany or motor problems only thing we replaced was the rack n pinion at 160k and 2 window regulators regular maintenance that thing was driven hard never had issues. I can't speak for the newer Jeeps, those do sound like garbage I would be pretty mad [ October 07, 2010, 08:22 PM: Message edited by: ZincYellowGt281 ]

my buddy had a 93 grand cherokee with the 5.2L v8 through college, bought it at ~150k miles, drove it to ~250k miles, at 240k the heads cracked, he bought a replacement set, we threw em on, the replacement heads were cracked too (both in the valve train area), he bought a set of brand new heads, all good.
then a brake hose burst, waterpump started leaking, coil blew up 3 or 4 times, I think the last straw was when the coil died the last time, he sold it for like 1500 and then the dumbass bought a newer 4.7L grand cherokee, a 2002 I think.
much nicer, but still a heep and I don't want to help him work on it, lol

I had a 95 Jeep, random little things went out on it. Never left me stranded though, and at 178k when it got stolen, it was still running strong. 5 XJs in a row all at the shop, that's pretty bad!
