its hit or miss on whether these companies will forgive interest let alone principle. best bet is to give them a sob story and see if they take the bait... the worst they can do is say no. if they happen to forgive any amount ull receive a 1099 cancellation of debt end of the year, which you'll be paying tax on so keep that in mind. and obviously your credit will take a hit.

are you in default and paying the default rate? if not just pay the minimum payment until u can afford more, dont ruin your credit.

Credit card companies are F'n snakes!!! I have an account with Chase and they jacked my interest rate to hell just because I was late once (was on VAC and forgot). I've called them numerous times and they wont do anything. Also have a CITI card and they just jacked up the rate because they said, "CITI had to do this in order to keep lending", yea fuk you too! As soon as tax returns come, they can all go to hell!

I had a visa with a very large limit. A little over a year ago, I got a letter saying that the current rate, that was 9.9 at the time, was going to be jacked up to something stupid like 17.9, unless I cancelled it within a month. If I closed the card, the rate would stay at 9.9. Needless to say, I closed that account asap, & kept my 9.9 rate.
Credit card companies are shystie!!!!

is Chase the only company you need to do this with? Don't jump the gun on filling a BK just yet.

your best bet if you stil hav decent credit is try to find a card that is offering a 0 or low percentage rate introductory offer on balance transfer consolidate and stop making them money. you will probably have a3% transaction fee but its still better than most aprs.

If you file for bk, doesnt the judge have the ability to modify your loan? If so i'd say fuck you to the credit card company anyways. Shit if you still have a balance i'd go on a little shopping spree earlier than later. Summit spree?

Then they have the ability to appeal the BK for "fraud" and you can either be liable for that recent amount, OR, if they deem it to be bullshit they can reverse the full amount or total BK.
Goodluck with that...
