If you are looking for a good daily driver that gets decent gas mileage, rides smooth, is very reliable, & can be had for a good price, I would look into a 96-98 GT....
Yeah they dont have much guts, but they look good, & they are cheap nowadays... Plus like I mentioned before, they are reliable, & get good gas mileage.
94-95 GT's are are a good choice too for all the other points I mentioned, but gas mileage isnt as great from my experience....
99-04 is great too, but they cost more.... [ February 17, 2009, 09:15 PM: Message edited by: EPIK ]

Maybe I'm getting old but a V8 for a DD sounds odd.
Maybe a old honda or corolla that gets 30+ MPG would make more sense to me. Nobody would steal it next to a mustang..

I hear ya on that.... I own 2 mustangs, but this is my DD...
Its gutless as all hell, & when Im in it, I fiend to drive 1 of my stangs, but I look at it like this........ It saves me A LOT of gas money, I dont have to worry about it getting stolen, I dont have to worry about door dings, & since its slow, it always makes my stangs feel REAL FAST when I get back in them.... cheap? Check again not anymore, mostly cause like you said their extremliy reliable and great on gas, but after you buy it what do you do to it? With a 4 bangger foxbody it's a running project the upgrades are endless. You can build a motor in the garge while you drive it. I'd rather drive a bangger foxbody then a Honda

LOL j/k
I'm sure with 3-4 grand you'll get lucky and find a 99-04 GT. Not too slow and look nice too.

You can get a nice BMW 3 series about a 2000-2001 for around 6k. I helped my sister in law buy one and those things are quick and fun to drive. Seems to be good on gas too. But I am hearing repairs are a pain. But if you keep up the maintenance you would be good. I am actually looking for one for myself now.

If you only have $3500 then go for a 98 GT. If you can scrape together a bit more cash go for a 99-04 GT.
Not sure why it is so crazy to have a V8 as a daily driver. My '01 GT was getting 23mpg freeway. Let's do the math vs. a "gas saver" that gets 30mpg freeway..
Daily commute = 50 miles round trip Price of gas = $2.25 (assumption) Cost per day @ 30mpg = 50/30 * 2.25 = $3.75 Cost per day @ 23mpg = 50/23 * 2.25 = $4.89
This would mean that you are only saving $22 a month by going with the 30mpg car on a 50mpg per day commute.

22/mo is quite a bit after a while.
22*12 = 274/year, In this economy that can be substantial. All depends on your comfort level and perspective. And we all know that 2.25 gas is a very optimistic number. [ February 18, 2009, 12:14 PM: Message edited by: N8 ]

Very true. For some people that savings is totally worth it.
I guess you would have to do that math based on your situation and see what you are actually saving.

Yeah but you only live once!
Why spend most of your time drving a car you don't like when you can be driving something thats fits you or you really like. Everyone to their own, but I'm the type that is willing to spend the extra cash to enjoy driving my V8 muscle (or Turbo V6 ).

Yea but you can live once with a lil more of a wad in your pocket. I think he can find the best of both worlds for his budget. I personally have purged myself of stangs for the moment. And I am diggin it.
