I sold my bmw back a few months, and I just got a letter from DMV saying they might garnish my wages if I don't register the car, now what can I do to get them of my back? I try looking for proof that I sold the car but can't find it, can I tell them the car no longer exits? let me know what you recommend, I don't care how it affects the current owner, he's had plenty of time to register the car.
Thanks

When you sell a car/vehicle and you exchange the pinks slips there is a portion you fill out and send to the DMV. This tells the DMV you sold the car and releases liability. You going to be in for a big head ache if you didnt turn that in.

I did, but the current owner did not change it under his name, even if he bought the car it stays under my name on the DMV system because he didn't register the car. peeps who part out cars how do you go about telling the DMV the car doesn't exist? l

If DMV has the release of liability on file tell them to go pound salt. That is why you fill that thing out and send it to DMV so you are not responsible for the vehicle anymore regardless of what the new owner does with it.

If you did send it in then on the paper work you received from dmv it should have your name as registered owner, and his name as interested party. If it is not on the paper work that dmv sent you, than your release of liability never made it to dmv. Good news is if you know where someone you hate lives and you know there last name, thats all you need for a release of liability and now there responsible for the cars fees. hahahahaha!!!!!!!!

Oh if his name is on the paper work just relaxe dmv cant garnish your wages. To tell dmv that the car is gone youre going to need one of two things, a scrap certificate and or a release to a junk yard. Theres no way around it going that route! I give the title of the shell to the yard I am getting rid of the shell at, and they in turn give me a junk slip, and they turn the title into the dmv as a junked car.
you can do an online release of liability at the dmv's website if you still have the guys information and the info of the car...

I sold a car and the bitch never registered it. Then she was more than happy to start piling up parking tickets in San Jose. Took me three letters and many photo copies of my release of liablity to get them off my back. Last letter I sent told them basically to stop harrasing me as the car wasn't mine. I put the letter in an envelope, on the front of the in big huge red pen I wrote "READ LETTER IN FULL" then put that in the envelope to mail to them. Gave them the bitches address and blah blah blah. I kept checking San Jose's website to see if she ever cleared it and she didn't so I called and finally was told that it was not my problem and they even appologized to me for continually sending me the tickets.

I've also sold a car and never turned in the release of liablity but he shipped it to Germany so I don't think there will ever be an issue.
I've also sold a bike about 4 months ago and just found the release of liablity in a drawer,...I never mailed it. Fuck it
