This question has bothered me for years and I hope someone might be able to answer this. Why do I still see so many hoods on "riced out" Hondas and such that have been painted black? Do they think I beleive its carbon fiber? Do they actually beleive they've fooled me? Or do they just want to fool a couple of people on the street who don't know anything about cars at all? I just don't get it. I've never had the balls to ask someone like that to explain themselves. I don't want to put them in that awkward of a position and make them look like t. Total idiots. Thanks for the feedback. Has this bothered anyone else like it's bothered me? [Confused]

It has bothered me, BUT I GOT BALLS, so I asked them once and they said that the car got wrecked and they could barely afford gas, let alone to fix it or buy a carbon fiber hood, so the LEVAN replacement hood they got for cheap came in flat black and looked close to carbon fiber by coincidence..............

dunno...

i still think they are gay....

Old hot rodders paint/painted their hoods black because of the glare from the sun while they were racing...Look at the Parnelli Jones Mustang and shit like that...I got nothin against black hoods....Fake carbon fiber parts is another story....

Black n gold that was a very good point that I forgot about. I guess these guys race so much they really need that feature.....lol. I'm not seeing as much "riced out" crap that I used to see around like when Fast an Furious came out. Maybe it's finally passing but it still makes me laugh every time I see em'.

You can also say the same thing for Mustangs that have cowl hoods but don't need them.

no, but i did ask this kid in a civic that had dual exhaust (single pipe into two separate mufflers and tailpipes) why he wanted to make his car slower with that exhaust?
he told me that the dual pipes really add horsepower. i then replied, oh you mean adding weight with the different pipes and making the exhaust reroute to exit the two pipes, thus causing the exhaust to take longer to escape makes your car faster? wow, maybe i should put quad exhaust on my mustang... he just turned and walked away.

what about mustang whith clear corners!?!?!?!? AHHHHHHHHHH [Eek!]

Honest I could give a fuck about someones hood as long as it stays bolted to the car I'm good.

Know why porno red interior came out? Because race car drivers wanted red inside the race cars...said it made them drive faster or gave them the racing edge or some bs like that. Today we all seem to dispise the red porno shit..I don't dispise it but I don't like it much.

Red faded from sports cars but has made a comeback when done with taste. Look at the new 911's and Ferrari and even the new mustangs...etc

Amber corners are a signature of fox bodies especially at night. clear corners on fox bodies is cheesy IMO.

But please dont bring back this fad:

I haven't seen many black hoods, i have seen real carbon fiber ones though. What i mostly see is ricers who have all new ground effects and new front and rear bumpers painted a different color than the rest of their car, or just primered OR so chipped and fucked up that i don't even know how they could drive the car without being embarassed.

Ok.....we all agree on crappy cars here. Would anyone be interested in building a piece of shit car that makes fun of the things we have discussed here? I'm talking something like a Ford festiva with the works. Yuban can exhaust, I have phony carbon fiber tape, black spray paint for the hood, mud flaps that say "RACING", etc. etc. It would be like monster garage with a twist. The budget should be like $5-600.00 bucks. Sound interesting anyone?

its not becuase they do it on purpose, it because if they crash or need a new hood for some reason, either the hood comes painted flat black or some other gay ass color and then is painted white or black for the time being till they have money to paint it the correct color or whatever. on the carbon fiber note, some cars look really good with certain parts.

Come on now. That movie alone probably inspired most of us to love Mustang Fox bodies. The Daytons were loved just as much. But I agree, lets not bring them back. Some still feel that they belong on old schools. Menace 2 Society is still a classic in my opinion.

Back in the 60s and 70s they put flat black hoods on muscle cars. I believe it was due to the glare from the clear coat on the hood when racing. A flat black hood was an option on some Mopars.

thats what im saying. what is a cowl hood for? if your engine is too big for a regular hood?!

some hondas, when swapped, NEED a different hood, or raked hood. because the engine won't actually fit under the stock hood.
