So i was at work and i get call from my aunt and shes hella crying. Turns out my dad had been stripping carpet pad off the floor in the basement and the fumes built up so much it exploded. He was able to get out with just a mild burn on his forearm but the entire basement and the kitchen got burned up. the rest of the house is ok except for major smoke damage. However my sisters dog and all three of our indoors cats perished because of smoke inhalation . Im just glad my dad is ok. It seems like life really throws some major ass curve balls sometimes
The good part is they do have home owners insurance and alot of stuff does look salvageable
I thought i would share that with everyone here since i check this site religiously and it is like my second family sometimes

the firefighters said it was probably the water heater clickin on. my dad said he did the whole die hard thing jumpin into the air, thats the only thing that save his life. yes it does suck about the animals, i had to discover all the cats myself, never seen so much death in my life. i couldnt stop crying when i wrapped up my lil cat shanks. what really sucks too is my parents just redid the kitchen and it all got burnt to shit
again,

What fumes from stripping carpet pad? Was he using some chemical?
Sorry to hear about the pets and the damage to the home. Sounds like you're dad is ok though and that is good.

the previous people who put the carpet in glued the carpet pad down. my dad was using acitone to remove it. he was actually done with the job when it happened. the good thing is the insurance company is taking care of everything.
thanks everyone who has replied. thanks ryan, it is very hard and husky was a good dog
it will take a while but we will get through it
