I just received a photo of me turning right on a red light. It happened the other day as I was turning through a yellow, and as soon as the light turned red, I was half way through the turn. There is no price on the ticket, just a number to call. Anyone know how much these are... or how to go about protesting this?

Shit! Just what I need at Christmas!

Did they at least put the pic in a frame for you? [Razz]

I'd call and try to talk to them but I doubt it would do any good. From what I was told the camera is triggered when a car crosses the line after the light turns red. Maybe you were partially through the light and another car behind you triggered it so they ticketed both of you. I got pulled over the other day for no front plate but because my car still has the Texas plates and I have a good bullshit story the cop let me go. Good luck.

Will they let you bring in your own drinks and popcorn? Seriously, I understand running a red light is very dangerous but it seems more about money than making roads safer. Every city had its little scams that generate revenue. You pay taxes to the government, they pay people to sit around with our money and figure out how to take more money from us..... its sad. Around Roseville they lowered speed limits on the main roads to a ridiculous speed just to make more money. A main street with 6 lanes and a center lane with a speed limit of 35, 1 bike cop running radar and 3 more just waiting for the next victim...... [Mad]

look up the laws on the code book. but if i remember right. the law states something about as long as your front wheels are over the last median line or however they call it. u know usually the the last line entering the intersection on ur side ur ok.

It is ALL about the money. One of the cops up here told me, A certin camera in marrysville generates 50-65k per month. That is after ALL costs have been paid.

I will look into the codes. The fact that I was partly through the corner when the light turned red should count for something. My SVO has no front plate as my cars are registered out of state, so I thought I was good. I guess it shot me from behind too. The ticket went to my parents house since the car is registered there, so I haven't seen it yet. I am usually very good about stop signs, so it isn't like I run them all day long. We will have to see. I leave very soon to go overseas, so maybe there will be a warrent out by the time I return?

/\ this was on my traffic school test and it was true. So if you are in the intersection before the red light then you are fine. They also get people for failing to stop at a red light before making a right hand turn though. So you gotta watch out for that one as many have radars for mph. I got a ticket like this for doing 2 mph when making a right hand turn. I guess I didn't stop all the way and those 2 mph cost me over $400 bucks and traffic school too!! LOL.

ive heard of this happening even on protected right turns where you dont have to stop at a red. Where you have your own lane, dont know how to explain it exactly but id look into that more as a way of possibly fighting it. If u have a turn you dont have to stop at, just a yield sign reds shouldnt matter. Not too sure. Some1 correct me if need be. Im confused as well. [patriot]

The intersection begins at the FIRST line. So for example if there is a crosswalk for pedestrians then it would begin at the crosswalk. This is refered to as the limit line. You are not suppose to stop while blocking a crosswalk or partially into an intersection (we all know this I was trying to make it more clear). That's why it's called the limit line. Just like a stop sign, there is a line.

So for instance, you see a yellow light too late and slam on your brakes and go partially into a crosswalk before stopping. It would be exactly the same violation if you had just ran the light completely.

I have heard that you can really fight camera tickets pretty well. Since you have the right to see your accuser in court, a camera can't represent itself in the court. Also I don't even think the PD actually maintains the pictures a seperate company does. I would look it up. There is a book out there that tells you how to get out of dumb tickets like that.
