Hopefully this will be simple enough...
My cobra is registered in Cali, and I just got the renewal notice and its $216 due in April...
I'm wondering if I register it in WA, would there be any fees?

There will be fees no matter where you register it. It is also a misdemeanor to register a car in a state you don't live in. There are a lot of people getting busted by DMV right now for title/registration fraud using out of state registrations. If you are trying to circumvent smog requirements the punishment goes up drastically. Why would you want it registered in Washington anyways? Do you have an address there?

Remember to subtract the VLF from that registration fee! You're military!

I'm not a moron, I know there would be fees if I registered it out of state. I'm military, so we are allowed to do that. We still have to get the cars smogged in order to get base decals, so not smog violations.
my question was: Since I already got the notice from the california DMV, if I registered it in Washington... would I face a fine if I didn't register it in CA since I got the notice already.
John, I know I could flash the military ID and get out of the VLF, I'm just trying to think ahead.... t minus 168 days till my DOS.

No, you are not required to pay anything to CA if you register it in another state. Just do it prior to your DOS and before your CA registration is up! Make sure you make a copy of the new registration and mail it in with your renewal notice to the CA DMV and they will remove it from the system.

Sorry man, your first post was kind of vague, says nothing about military, and specifically asks, " I'm wondering if I register it in WA, would there be any fees? [Confused]?"
Hence the answer about fees.
