i keep getting these pop-ups,they say (messenger service)it has a date,time and something about service errors or some shit [Confused] .need some help.

A router will take care of those. Do you have comcast internet? I get those for any of my computers that are either outside my router or in my DMZ.

Never knew that proggy existed. I was going to tell him to get into his services manager and disable it if he didnt want to get a router. Thanks for the info.

A good thing to still invest in is a router, it basically masks your internal IP's which those serivce pop-ups are targetting. So you are still vulnerable to other exploits far worse than UDP exploits.

Not sure of the kind of work you do, but if you use some sorts of shell access and NetSend, this will disable those as well.

A router hides your inside IP's from the world. Basically look as it as a gateway that prevents 2 way traffic.

Rather than type it out, here is a link with some good info. I recommend a router for anyone that does online shopping or banking.

What most people use it for:
1. Wireless Connection
2. More than one computer connect to the interet on a single "internet" line.

Routers do much more but it does not pertain to the avg user. Most interet service providers have a modem/router combo in one unit that is basically a plug and play thing so you don't have to worry about anything.
