The catch is that it has a bad motor hole in the block. The mileage is 140k and its clean in and out. I know the v10 motors are expensive. The truck looks really cool but I'm afraid I may spend too much money on a motor like this. The seller wants 4k for it. Is this a good deal? How much do these motors go for? Thanks

V-10's suck. I would see what they are going for with that Millage on a truck that is similar. Call Ford and just ask them how much a motor cost. Atleast it will give you an Idea, I am sure you could get it cheaper then the Stealer.

???

I love my v-10, for what I use it for. Wouldn't trade it for any diesel Ford produces. The other option in 2002-2003, the 6.0 tourqshift pos that Ford recalled??? Oh, theres a good buy. Glad I passed on that.

Can't say I would buy a v10 with a hole in the block but they are good motors otherwise. Hell, it's just a bigger version of the modmotor. Slap a Supercharger on that sucker and go to town.

If you don't like the V10 dropp a smaller motor in it thats newer.
I want my dad to get a truck like this but with hte V10. That would be badass to drive.

Why do the v10s suck? I don't know much about them so any input is appreciated. All i know is that it is an expensive fix for sure it will need a complete motor.

Here is the deal, V10 VS PSD.

They make similar HP and TQ levels stock for stock. They are both more than enough power for most people. They reason that I would consider the Powerstroke to be a way better setup is simply this. The 7.3L PSD only needs 2200 RPM to be making peak TQ and peak HP is around 3000 RPM. The PSD factory rev limiter is 3200. The V10 has to push much harder to make its peak power and TQ, so when towing, the truck is always downshifting and reving upwards of 4500-5500, which is harder on parts, harder on the tranny and most importantly HORRIBLE for fuel mileage! You can expect your MPG's to be around 11-14, and even worse while towing anything more than your lawn mower. You can expect 7-10 MPG depending on the weight of your load. There was a post on here a few days ago where several PSD owners reported getting 17-21 MPG empty, with the worst reported mileage while towning bing my truck, (go figure, 12 inch lift, 40inch tires, yadda yadda), which gets around 13 MPG with my car and trailor behind it.

On top of all of this, the Diesel motors can be easily modded to nearly double there power output. [Big Grin] [burnout]

A guy at my work had an F250 with the V10, can't remember the mileage but Ford had to replace one of the cylinder heads on it. My brother just bought a 2004 or 2005 (can't remember) F350 diesel with a stick. The thing has unbelievable low end torque. In granny gear you can just let out the clutch without any throttle and pull a 4000lb boat out of the water and up the ramp.

simply put, deisel is the way to go, v-10s just dont last like a power stroke does, my brother just traded in his 2000 power stroke with 213,000k and still running strong. if you plan on buying this truck dont mess around with another v-10

I'm a Ford tech and all I work on are Superduty's and Econolines. My professional opinion on the 6.8L V10 is it is a big waste of money, as in the money wou'll spend on gas and the money you will lose on resale. I don't understand why people who want a truck to tow with get a V10, the diesel, either a 7.3 or 6.0, is the way to go. The turbo diesel is the most fuel efficient internal combustion engine second to the rotorary. People assume the 6.8 has alot of power because it's a V10, well bigger is not always better. The 6.8L sucks gas at an average of 10 to 12 MPG, has horrible spark knock (ping) at about 30,000 to 50,000 miles and only gets worse, and has a ticking noise caused by the design of exhaust y-pipe leading to the cat. If you're going to get a Superduty, get a diesel! The 7.3L is a workhorse and besides the occasional oil leak it will last forever. The 6.0L has alot of power and is a good engine when it runs right. Alot of people complain about the 6.0 but what I've come to learn is that alot of the simple problems they have are not fixed or are made worse by under-trained technicians. Also lack of maintance and aftermarket programmers will wipe out a 6.0 in no time. The bottom line is the V10 is meant for people who want a big truck but don't want to fork over the extra $6k for a diesel.

Thanks for all your replies and advice. I'm definitely not going to buy this truck! I'll stick to finding a 7.3L diesel because I heard that the 6.0L diesels have a bunch of problems too.

6.0 suck too. Go 7.3L.

On Edit: I have a Contractor I work with that has V-10. Tows a lot like I do, Motor blew at 90K and always got around 7 or 8 MPG no matter if he was easy on it or was flooring it. My truck just rolled over 222,222 miles stock tranny and stock motor. I have dual programers, and there are a few people on this site that know that I havn't exactly been nice to the motor or trans. I get around 20MPG hwy and the lowest I have ever gotten in it was 15MPG towing 4 full pallets of tile around 800 sf of tile on each pallet. I think the truck trailer and load came in around 24k I have the CAT scale Slip somewhere around my office.

The 6.0 has alot more power and is a better motor than the 7.3, but the 7.3 is more reliable. Once the odometer hits 90,000 miles in a 6.0 it's time to sell it or trade it in. Just to attest to the crappiness of the 6.8L V10....... I had a customer who complained about poor gas mileage with his 06' F-250 6.8L four door 4X4, with only 200 miles on it. I did a fuel economy test and this bone stock truck basically off the lot got an average of 10 mpg, mostly on the highway. It blew this guy's mind. He thought a gas engine would get better fuel economy than a diesel..... well it's the other way around.
