ok, why? Why do you want to go 1cm wider?? Kinda pointless. The tires cost more, plus very little gained if any. My $.02, stay with the 275's. And I hope you are running 275/ 40 /17's. not 45 /17.

Going upsize in profile throws your speedo off. Unless you have had the car calibrated for a larger profile its not worth it. Plus if you step down to a 40, I bet you will notice you get better acceleration. Correct sizing would be 245/45/17 or 275/40/17. As you go wider the tire gets taller too, thats why you bring the sidewall height down too.

now with the 275/40/17 is that going to have a gap between the fender and the tire? cause the 45's tuck under the fender.

It might have a little, but it depends on your car and its suspension set-up.

going with 45 series is going to give you one big fat sidewall. i think it will be tough to clear everything also.

Well I would avoid going with Yoko's, or BFG's. They hook awesome when new, but once heated up they get hard. Nitto's last well, soft, fairly sticky. Bridgstone's, Conti's, Perelli's also get hard after they get hot. Dunlops, and falken's are suposed to stay fairly soft. If it wasn't wet season, I would say get some DR's, either M/T, or Nitto. If you got a decent amount to spend on them, a good tire is the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3. Soft tire, long rain grooves to desperse water well. But they can get a bit more pricey then others too.

For this time of year, and known area conditions, its probably the best tire you can go with right now.
