I guess I'm really only pissed off at myself. I called ALLLLL our other companies that need notification of our adress change (took 4 hours). They all ask if I'm keeping the same number. I say yeah.
I called SBC last, figuring a few miles isn't going to lose me my number. I don't want to have to call all the other places again just for the number change.
I'm just sick of moving and we aren't even half way done yet

Did they give you a reason why you could not keep it? I would speak to a supervisior and complain.

She said something about a their switches or pods...I don't know. I don't think a supervisor is going to be able to do much. I don't think they are picking on me and choosing not to let me keep the number...just sucks is all. Guess I better start calling everyone back

My u-haul rant was more justifiable I admit. As I said I'm just tired of moving...the little things ARE getting to me. The wife lost her cell phone yesterday at Costco. Normally I wouldn't have given a rats ass but its just one more thing to add to the list of things that need to be done, and of course we didn't get insurance on our phones.

Just to let you "youngster" know, it's not justa number. People in the adult world need thier numbers. If he has had this number for a while now, it is not A SMALL THING. My brother has had his number for years. It is his biusness #, printed on his cards, in the yellow pages and countless customers have it. You people in "mommy made muscle land," need to step back and realize thier is a world out thier.

Okay. If people in the adult world need "thier numbers", I guess people in the adult world would also build some adult-like patience and realize that moving a household requires some tolerance so errands can be done to make sure communication towards them doesn't get mangled up (phone, paychecks, DMV change-of-address, USPS, etc).
Just because you are older doesn't make you more important than me. Especially if you have business cards (how much do those cost?) and a space in the yellow pages. You think the thousands of other businesses out there don't have to do it at one time or another?
Nobody is making him move either. He did it on his own regard so in essence he took all the responsibilities towards converting all that information.
It's like complaining when you are looking for cheaper insurance rates. It's a big hassle and you could be on the phone for hours but once you're done you forget about it and you're saving some $$.

Just port your # over to a cell phone carrier and ditch the landline all together....unless you really want/need the landline. If you're interested in doing that, you might wanna do it soon as it takes some time to go from landline to wireless.

I'm looking into doing that. Do you have more information on it musty? Such as when places ask for your residence phone number can that cell number be used?

I don't know the exact answer, but I don't think it would be too much of a problem as a lot of people stick to their cell phones these days. I haven't had any problems and I always use my cell # for all my personal accounts such as banks, credit cards, etc.
A side note on how the porting works....Your current SBC # must be active in order to transfer to another carrier. If it has been cancelled, another company can't gain access to it. You would need to provide your account # and password (if you have a password setup for security purposes...many times it's the last 4 of your social). I haven't looked lately, but it may take up to 30 days to get it transferred over.

OK, this person obviously has the mental capacity of what I blew out of my nose this morning. Re-read what you wrote. Business cards do not cost much, but the people who have them, and tell other people do. Are you realy this "slow?" No body is making him move?? Why would you write that? No, I'm sure he's moving just to cause more problems in his life. He must be bored. It's not like he's advanceing his life or any thing. But I guess for people who can just go to mommy for money, and mommy doesn't make you move, and you don't wanna clean your room, things like this would not matter to you.
Keep theis post to the adults, mentally that is. This would not be you, who is mentally challenged.

All I'm saying is that it's just a phone number, not the end of the world. If you think so, more power to you. I don't really care anyway.
At least mommy told me how to spell correctly. You should look at your own posts before trying to insult someone else. I'm out of this thread so I'll keep theis post to adults.

The reason your getting a differnt number is because you are moveing to an area that has a differnt central office (exchange/ where your dialtone and ring voltage is being produced) each one of these CO's have a area code and prefix example In my area (408)244-xxxx assigned to them Kinda like a zip code to diffent nieghborhoods. when you moved from Freakmont or Newark the first time you must of been fed from the Same CO, But your new Place is being fed from a differnt CO hens forth your new prefix/number. You can keep the same number But there would be another charge involved cause SBC would use two numbers your old one would be forwarded to the new prefix number. I hope this kinda helped a bit. good luck on your move.
