So I have a 88 mclaren. It's in repairable condition slightly parted out its missing a rear end and motor would need a front end basically, radiator support sheet metal doubt any frame work a hood fender lights etc shit like that. Maybe 4500 of stuff to get the car really going with both new and used parts probably.
Was doing some driving around and found a 04 cobra black coupe black interior 4 corner bilstien coil overs MM k member probably didn't get a good look tho but had control arms was on fr500's and nittos real clean car.
The bad is: 117k on the odomoter 6 owners 4 dealers though Trans was replaced at 13-14k I don't know why. Was involved in a rear end collision I don't know of it was hit or it hit some one. Clean title still stock exhaust just suspension work it looks like. Driver seat has MAJOR seat time ripped on both outer bolsters of driver seat and worn out back area driver seat only.
They are asking 15999 30% down around 4500 basically Should I dump 4500 over a length of time into the fox and have no payment but still have 80's fox that could get stolen or not have resale value and not really a dd car
Or spend 4500 plus payments on a cobra with pre existing mods? Still could get stolen but worth more in the end

Kinda hard to steal cobras, by the way... All the ones you hear about are most likely insurance scams like 99% most likely

I'd rather just spend the extra couple thousand and get a 2011+ GT. Its new, reliable and wont break down for awhile. Thats the only way i'd go if i where going to make payments on a car. If you get a 4/6 year loan on a 2012 GT, Once youre done paying it off, Its only going to be a 6-7 year old car with probably 80-100k miles. A 2004 Cobra will be like 15 years old, broken down and worthless because of its wreck and high mileage. What happens when that Cobra motor breaks down and you need to shell out a couple thousand to fix it and youll probably be $25k-$30k in the hole on a high mileage wrecked Terminator afterwards.
Just shell out the money now and have a new car thatll last. [ 2013-08-12, 10:56 PM: Message edited by: Robb ]

It would be legit but after clearing my head out the clouds I'm seeing that I can get way better for a more of a DEAL. Lower mileage yes stock maybe even modded but reasonable cleaner car. Just kind of tired of foxes for the moment

Working at a bank man, if you can afford 500 a month go to a credit union and get a car loan....I know that cobra is a Cora but the money your pouring into it doesn't equate it's value. If you have a good steady job that gives you 500 a month go to a CREDIT UNION not chase or Wells Fargo. But a credit union if you can go to san Mateo credit union. Ask for a car loan interest rates are around 2-3% they sell you mercury car insurance too it covers everything, so that extended warranty can go rip someone else off. Hopefully this helps you

I'd buy the Cobra, but not that particular Cobra. Wait for a good one to come up you won't regret it.

Im from the if you have to finance it you can't afford it club. Save up and cash out. There will always be cobras. Most banks with charge you higher interest rates on a car that old. 10%+.

The only thing you should be making payments on is a house, save your $500 a month, did you factor in full coverage insurance yet? If you learn to save money and not spend money that $500 a month can turn into a down payment on a house in a few years, financing a car at a young age is a terrible mistake, good luck either way.

Chop that McClaren in pieces, they'll never look good. And definitely don't finance a bucket high mileage, worn out Cobra, just be patient.

Personally, I'd never finance a Mustang or any car that will end up being a "toy." Once you start modding it, beating on it, etc. the value goes down and it is never worth what you paid for (after interest and other charges). I say you sell the maclaren, save for a few months, and pay CASH for a better cobra within your cash budget.
Plus, the cobra you're talking about sounds beat to shit.

who the hell asks for 30% down on a used car? Thats crazy! That car sounds whooped. No way I would pay on that for 5 years. That McClaren is an ugly p.o.s Take it to the junkyard and dump it. Take that 4500 and use it as a downpayment on something that ia actually cool

30% down is usually a buy here-pay here kind of request.
And you can always go through CUDL which most credit unions will do anyway. You'll get the best rate we can give you without shopping rates.
Hope 95gtdrop doesn't mind me sharing this, but he just walked away with the payment he wanted on an 04 Cobra from my dealership, never shopped his interest rate and walked with 2.99% on a 10 year old car. That wasnt in an accident or beat to hell, and had 56k miles.
There's better deals and better cars, IF you decide to finance be sure you make the right call on the car. [ 2013-08-13, 07:39 AM: Message edited by: swedensky ]

For you guys saying how you pay cash for all you cars and its a bad idea to get a loan for a car. You either "A" have alot of money or "B" drive and buy a bunch of cheap buckets! Im gonna go with the latter...
