Have you guys tried looking at community colleges see if they offer a program? My nearest community college offers a great program where you can get your certification in 2 semesters. Pretty cool and you don't need to spend all that money for schools like uti wyotech.

There are endless jobs for diesel technicians. ....Its honestly not such a bad job. There is always something to do. Most of the shite is entirely preventative maintenance. Some of it gets dirty. Just depends what the application of the engine is in. Yeah; try your local community college and keep the money your pockets. Lots of the jobs are willing to train and send your thru the actual manufacturer training schools and certify that way. Most jobs don't seem to give a Dang if you have cert otherwise. Its a start tho.....in my opinion it was easier work. Less diagnoses; things wind up be obvious broken if broke at all. They are pretty much bullit proof. Filters.filters. ...Filters!!!!!. Have to change them and keep them clean!!!. The engine will run almost a million miles sometimes.

ya he got a good job at cat, my uncle has been a diesel tech for 30 years now, he's all beat to shit physically (bad back knees etc) but he always has work and has great retirement and benefits, btw younger friend who works at cat is already considered 20% permantley disabled (at 26 years old) from a little knee injury, weird how some unions work.

Go to alameda college for their diesel program, I took 2 classes from them then switched fields. while I was attending there were techs from cummins that had graduated from wyotech in wyoming and cummins had sent them there to reinforce their skills. Dont waste your money in uti or wyotech and go to Alameda.. That's what they told me they wished they would have done.

I did UTI for the Ford certs, did line tech for a year and moved to diesel. Love working it, keeps my hours good, my paychecks as good and my wrenches dirty.
