Got the short throw triax and another power steering ram to install. This will be the third "new" power steering ram in 1 month. First one from amazon leaked like crazy, second amazon one didnt power assist. Order the third one from a new supplier (sac mustang) thinking it would be a different part manufacturer. Just got it in from fedex and it is the same exact company "autopro" that amazon had. Just sac mustang is charging me $50 more than amazon for the same item. I really have no faith in this crappy brand at this point. Hopefully this one actually works!!! [Mad]

you could try and rebuild it yourself? but the problem is the cores floating around are probably beyond wore out. try one from a quality auto parts store. I had good luck with my A-1 cardone ram.

either that or drop the $900-$1000 bucks and get the borgeson kit or spend a little more $$ and go rack and pinion. only problem with rack and pinion kits is most dont clear aftermarket 351W pans in these old cars.

My original one had a small drip every once in a while which annoyed me. I was going to replace the seals only to find out that the rod was bent. So this is why i got a "new" one. Thinking i had a quality new part i tossed my original one. [Frown] Maybe just stick with the moto "if its not leaking, its out of fuild". Seems like everyone has issues with the p/s setups on these old fords. Mine has always leaked or seeped.

I was researching all the different setups, looking at the borgeson but found out it wont work with the zbar setup. Rack and pinion's are nice too but are pricey approaching 2k. I'm already invested in my current setup too. New pump, new lines, completely rebuild center link, control valve professionally rebuilt and now a new ram. On the clearance of some of those racks, some bolt up in place of the crossmember. In those cases you could just space it down to make some clearance to the oil pan. But yea, the clearance is even tight for a stock setup with these pans. Nothing really "fits" in these old cars anyway! All instuctions should state "persuasion required" lol

trust me I've been there. just FYI unisteer makes a manual rack kit for under $1k and if you keep looking they do go on sale. I ended up getting my power rack kit from them with an an extra pulley for when I go serpentine belt and shipped to my house it was a little under $1300. The steeroids and Randalls Rack kit are also both good kits but Unisteer was the only kit that I found that maintained factory turning radius. If I remember right on my car it came with 6" of steering travel and unisteer was the only one that matched that. plus unisteer uses a C5 P/S pump and it takes hardly any room and looks great on the motor.

I hear ya on the old ford power steering. I finally got mine working 100% with no leaks after tons of little things here and there which even included me running modified big block hoses. But I wasnt sure how long it would hold for and once the rack kit went on sale I bought it! I might have gone the Borgeson route to save a little $$$ and have pan clearance , But it wasnt Available when I was looking. and well spacing my rack down on an already slammed car would make it so I got more bump steer to work out.

If I were you save up a little money and sell those other parts on ebay. you'd be surprised at what vintage steering / suspension parts go for on that site!! since all my stuff was fairly new It pulled pretty good money. good luck if you got any rack question go ahead and hollar at me

Almost forgot not sure if you have ever dealt with him but John Bacon sells Mustang parts new and used and he apparently grew up or knows Scott Drake personally and he is in you neck of the woods (about 2 miles from mustangs plus). Check him out, apparently he has a guy that rebuilds factory ford P/S parts and does a damn good job. so you may pull your ram off tell them it leaks get another one sell that one on ebay or something and go see bacon for a good core and have his guy whip it up. I gotta look for his phone number if I dont have it I know Duncan motors does.Super cool old guy, prices are great and he'll even grab a beer for you while he rounds up your parts.

I got the shifter installed, now just need to do the steering ram. The throw on the stock to the triax shifter measures the same travel distance. Feels a little bit tighter but not much. Guess when most of you change yours, its pretty well worn. lol My stock shifter had about 8k miles on it. I haven't driven with it yet so maybe ill notice a bigger difference on the road.

You should try the Borgeson kit. We just installed it on my bosses 70 mustang it works great no leaks at all and it's a big diffrense from the stock p/s set up.
