There are lots to choose from. The 5.9 Cummmins in the dodge pickup are well sought after and said to be one if not the best diesel motor ever. Duramax and powerstroke engines are great. Duramax engines have always been great on fuel economy and have good horsepower. I guess the ones to stay away from are the very problematic 6.0 powerstroke and the late 80's chevy diesels. Hope this helps

Dodge cabs are smaller than Ford/Chevy cabs. The 4 door is more like a glorified extra cab, with the exception of the MegaCab trucks. I love mine, but expect the cheap Chrysler interior and quality. I bought my 06 because of the Cummins and the 6 speed manual. You're going to have to give us some more of what you're looking for. Stay away from 03-05 6.0 Fords.

Diesel is overkill then for something that weighs 2k. Find yourself a nice gas truck that fits your needs. 13k is probably only going to get you a diesel truck with high miles..

What kind of trailer do you have? My boat trailer is like 1200 pounds without the boat. Im thinking your estimation is wrong even the smallest rv trailer is probly 3500-4500 unless you have one of those coffin on wheels. My toy hauler is 17000 pounds and my 6.4 ford pulls it just fine. But I'd say anything under 6000 pounds there's no need for a diesel

For that little amount of weight u cant go wrong with the f-150 with the diesel I had an 05 f-150 super crew with a 5.4 gasser and mixed city and highway i would average 14.2 mpg. Really liked the plush ride of that truck

I've read that towing with the 4 cycylinder is iffy. Do you know if there is any truth to this.

Diesel is DEFINITELY overkill for a 2000lb trailer. Hell, you can usually tow 1500-2000lbs with almost any car.

I wouldn't tow that weight with anything smaller than a F150 or Silverado 1500. A diesel truck is overkill for that trailer. There is a lot more to towing than power. Your rig has to be able to control the trailer in all conditions. Most 4cyl trucks and car based suvs do not have the wheelbase or mass to control a 2000lb toy hauler in all conditions. You could get away with it on flat ground with no wind, but start going through turns and passing semi trucks can be scary on a windy day. That being said my '03 Tahoe 5.3 tows my ~4900lb trailer and all of my gear for racing without issue.

If your looking to save some dough u could pick up a used explorer or older f150 to get the job done and still have cahs left over. For what your doing diesel is overkill. A V6 truck will tow what you have with no issues. ie Frontier/tacoma/dakota

If its a small trailer with a cleaning machine mounted the "toy hauler" part threw me off. But I had a 2007 Toyota Tacoma 4 door v6 with the tow package and I could easily tow my car trailer and my car which prolly totaled around 6000 pounds so I would look into that.
