well long story short.... 25 years of my life and never knowing my dad and just going off the name on my birth cert. {my oms side of family who raised me knows nothing of him like it was a secret} so just googling i found when he was born, some old places he lived, family, a few of these site have detailed info but you have to pay {they all vary so much} has anyone used htem or is registered to do searches? if so please let me know. i have searched fb and i get profiles that all have these people {my dads family} but its all private you cant add or message them. the numbers i have found they just ring and ring never a voice mail. in the past i have called and asked hey are you related..... they hang up with in a few days the number is no longer in serivce. i just have question i want to hopefully get the ansews to. i have asked a few family frineds who use to hang out with my dad.... guess the family is bikers and bunch of criminals.{i know something are best left unknown} i dont really want anything to do with the family. it would be nice to see a picture or something. i also heared i have a sister from my dads side {archives list 3 birth records that are in common with my dad, along with 2 marriges and a divorce}. i make progress and then its like they just crawl under a rock and shut everything off. from doing random name searches on my dads brothers they use alot of diff middle int. and spell the last name diff but these sites link them under possible relitives. i know this is very long and im sure most of you could careless. i just want to know what site to go with or if someone can help me out by doing some searching {maybe get death record and birth records along with the marriges}. sorta like asking for a carfax buton a person lol. so if anyone can help me please let me know. i have all info on my dad but with out paying for a site or knowing someone i cant see the important things.

so far archives.com seems to the best. im looking for a free site like it or maybe someone on a site like it. i just want this search to be over so i can have that one thing off my so called bucket list. ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

damn man , crazy .. I hope you get to the bottom of this and find him. I dont understand why ur famliy would still keep it a secret. I think at your age if anything they would od said somthing. really fucked up . I see what your trying to do , its not like you want him as a dad now, you just want to meet or atleast get to know his side of the famliy . its only right. I dont know of any resources but I posted because I can only imagine how that feels . Best of luck bro

thanks. well my dad passed away in 1998. as far as my moms side of family. they just wont talk about it or there like scared or something. my aun finally droped a few names and thats what got me so far. my uncles either say i was in the service then or i was to young. my gma and gpa have both passed away. i just want to talk to his family, see pictures, know how he passed away and where he is buried. i know on like archives you can see someof this but its like 20 bucks... i have a feeling its just going to be info i found. i did find his ss number on one site and the days born/died along with years. it says you can cacel after a free month... but to be honest i ruined my credit when i was 18 and i dont have a bank account {i like to have my money} so i have to pay a frined and i dont want it to be a waste. no im not asking anyone to go pay and get info {but if you want to or have it already in a search you have done... that be nice} not trying to have a sad story and have someone feel bad for me.... to be honest my life has been worse and is even more in the gutter with things i have delt with. i swear one day i am going to write about my life and maybe that will be my calling to help someone with the trials of life i have delt with. anyways thanks cafords.

I've been using ancestry.com on and off to try and trace my mom's family. For what you're looking to do I don't think it'll help you. They don't have full scans of modern records on there because of privacy issues for people who could still be alive. They only put up scans once the record has reached 75 years old. Also, they don't have archives of peoples photos like they show in the commercials. Unless someone in your family has scanned and posted the photo, there are no photos.
I've found that trying to trace my Puerto Rican roots though the website is impossible. They just don't have the records.

I do not think Ancestry.com will help your efforts (but wont hurt either). I think you will have to do some physical searching. My cousin has been doing this for our family tree and has actually traced some stuff back to post slavery. I will ask him what method he is using.

I doubt it will be a waste, but I think you will still have some leg work after. But not a waste.
