I'm thinking about mildly building a 64-68 mustang, just wanted some people's opinions based on experience, which one would hold it's value the most? I know I'll never get all my money back just want opinions. Haters start your own thread. Thanks. [ December 15, 2010, 10:02 PM: Message edited by: Smoked50 ]

Coupes are a dime a dozen, go to any car show and you'll have trouble finding Fastbacks. I only saw like 4 in Hot August Nights. If you can find a Fastback to build, i'd do it.

Is it even worth building a coupe? I don't feel like waiting for a fastback to pop up, I know of a couple coupes right now but don't wanna end up losing all my money.

depends on you budget.. do you have 7-8k to drop on a bucket fastback? then another 10k or so for the rest of the car? sucks cause when i first bought my coupe, fastback were just about the same price.. thanks gone and 60 seconds..lol.. If you can afford the fastback go with it!

are you trying to make a profit off it? it's hard periord getting any profits off old schools. u always end up putting alot of money and work into them if it's done right. Good thing is you at least usually can get what you put in them back.

Just like the others stated. a fastback will hold much more value than a coupe. I've seen rusted 65-66 fastback bodies go for 5k+ easily. When you can buy a coupe running for that price. If you have the money to spend, get a fastback.

I paid $5600 for my '65 Fastback a little over 2 years ago, a very rust free and straight 6 cylinder car. I started off with a coupe but realized I'd be way under water with it if I did everything I wanted to do. Basically, if you're looking for a simple driver with some basic mods, then a coupe is fine. If you're going to be spending some bucks, then a fastback is the only way to go.

I picked up my fastback in 2000 for 2,700.00 It had lots of rust, was a 200ci/3spd so eons did put an 8inch under it before I bought it. We did drive it home
I'd say build either one. Coupes might be more common, but the money you save on a coupe would give you more money for: suspension, body work, int, brakes, wheels tires, motor and trans.....
Either way you go, just take your time and do it right the first time.

like most of the other posters say coupes are a dime a dozen, thats not a bad thing if.....your looking for a toy and your plan on swapping out everything with performace crap, then get a coupe (no regrets, dime a dozen ). if your tring to have a car hold it value get a fastback and try to avoid hacking it to death doing a restomod like most people. nothing hold better value then a stock original car

If you compare throwing a bunch of money into a Coupe and Fastback your going to get some of your money back by selling the Fastback, the coupe you'll be lucky if you get some back.

Stock Mustangs aren't any fun to drive that's for sure. The only Mustangs you DON'T want to mod is real Shelby's or S-Codes.

Regardless of coupe or fastback they are both going to hold their value if you tastefully restore them and not rig them up with junk. As for picking between the two, look at your budget and capabilities of restoring a car. The fastbacks are going to cost more intially since they are a more rare body style but they will cost about the same in restoration parts.
