Alameda County is hitting me with 1.41%.

What is the tax rate in your county?

I'm trying to find the property tax rate by Bay Area County, but struggling to find anything current.

Alameda here too. They did re-assess our place 2 years ago and basically cut it in half... Which matches what our property values did.

My county lowered my assessed value and then increased the assessments to make up for the difference. [Roll Eyes]

You probably need to go to each county's assessor's office web page for the info. Incorporated cities will be different than the county, then you add in the special local assessments for the property. With special assessments, I think i'm about 1.4% too.

1.1096% here in Pittsburg. They also hit you up for an additional $459.79 in special taxes and assessments.

Escrow account or not, you still pay it.

But you are right, when I refinanced in Jan, WF set up an escrow account for me that I was not happy with at the time since that money does not acrew interest like it would if I set up my own personal savings account for the purposes of prop tax. But now, it's nice that this prop tax money is already accounted for and won't be coming out of my savings like it did years before.

How much interest can you really be making on 3-5k a year? You'd probably be better off eating top ramen 3 days a month. When its in your payment you dont have to worry about it biting you in the ass. The only thing you should do is make sure you read your bill so if the taxes go up you can inform your bank to make sure they adjust your payment. Otherwise you'll be screwed over with an escrow shortage. Have your taxes in your payment and you wont be putting up posts worried about tax time, LOL. [Roll Eyes]

Even though banks are not paying interest like they did several yrs ago, if I can have that small amount of interest, I'd prefer to take it vs. not take it. And this post was meant to find out what prop tax rates are in different counties/cities, not worrying about tax time.
