ok guys heres another debate...
for stock motor sizes this time.. no strokers...
Would you rather have a H/C/I 5.0 or a stock H/C/I w/ blower or turbo???
pushrod family only this time, the modular debates will soon follow...
I'm asking power wise? in theory both setups are on healthy motors, not donut king stock bottom ends that are ready to blow...
I know a lot of people here sware they are fast with H/C/I, they prob are quick in a 1/4 mile but when compared to boost are they fast???
Would a boosted stock 5.0 out run its H/C/I brother?? on the highway..
I've seen multiple H/C/I foxes get waxed on the highway by cars it would beat in the 1/4 mile... mighty LS1..
I'm kind of spit on this in a way but my vote goes to Boost again..
we are talking about 6-10lbs of boost which will have both cars around the same power..
Whats your thoughts?????? [ September 26, 2010, 10:43 AM: Message edited by: cali95gt ]

This is easy. If you are looking for the BEST setup, and money doesnt matter.
HCI + Turbo > all other setups.
-------------------- 1985 SVO - T3/T4 .63AR turbo upgrade, Front Mount IC, CAI ect. SDS Standalone ECU and 55lb injectors soon + 28PSI of boost coming soon.

Oh I see now...you also added a stock + turbo
Well the stock + turbo, will wax a HCI fox for the most part (unless its a stroker fox)especially on a freeway run.
At 10psi, with 42lb injectors, you should see high 300rwhp to low 400rwhp.
At 10psi with a vortech, you will usually see mid 300rwhp on stock HCI
Assuming you have the fuel system and a good tune for both setups [ September 26, 2010, 10:57 AM: Message edited by: theturbofrdguy ]

First, I am going to assume you are comparing a stock 87-95 5.0 engine with an Strim compared to a basic but well thought out HCI combo with both options utilizing all the supporting mods like fuel, exhaust, maf, etc.
Both options have 300+ rwhp potential.
The boosted option will retain stock driveability, stock smoggability, and stock gas mileage when not under boost.
I also like popping the hood and only having to explain one major modification with a CARB# to a smog tech or chp lol
I take the boosted option for sure!

I'm a hater, but it's hard to hate on these facts. I have saved hunrdeds, maybe thousands of dollars here buying and selling parts over the years alone, but I don't care, this website owes me damnit, and I'll piss on it as much as I want. Stock motor and turbo will beat most HCI cars and most SC cars IMHO. ( and this assumes the fuel system is upgraded so you can crank up the boost.)

and to think a complete turbo kit cost the same, if not less than, a complete Top-end kit..

stock long block, stock everything to the throttle body actually (well minus the fuel) with a little junk yard turbo setup and a solid tuner, car went 11.2 on street tires...
not even that much boost either, that's my pick

Do a well built H/C/I combo w/ 9:1 compression and is built to handle boost. Drive it 'til you get bored and then throw a blower on it
