If there is a genuine problem, and you reset the battery, the light will just come back within a short amount of time.

What is the code that it is throwing and how sure are you that it is an O2 Sensor?

My 2001 Civic EX was throwing P0420
I had to replace teh catalytic converter for the light to go away permanently.

Yup, I agree it sounds like an O2 Sensor.
