Niners win. They saved the "best" for last, I guess. Both the Cards and Niners Offense struggleed...WHY?
Because both defenses are gonna be dominating this year, no doubt. Both Offenses need a little work BUT both defenses just clowned 'em all game and that is what made the O's look crappy. Kind of a new look for both of these teams, really.
Most specifically, the Niners defense looks like it could be one of the best in the NFL this year. I know it's only one game, but my God they were flyin' to the ball, just knockin' fools out. The secondary looks fantastic(I guess you get what ya pay for). Those downfield/above camera angles showed blanket coverage seemingly every play against a team with arguably the best 2 receivers on one team. Patrick Willis...geez have the Niners EVER had a linebacker that's gonna do what this kid is ALREADY doin'?!! He's gonna be in the Pro Bowl this year and for every year for about 10 years. Great 1st round pick!! The Niners almost, just maybe looked like they were playin' with a little swagger...when's the last time we've seen that? Special teams were great...Man, I felt sorry for that punt returner for Arz. Nedney is money. Great coaches...This is gonna be a good season...much excited!(if ya couln't tell ![[Razz]](tongue.gif) )

I thought the defense looked good. And Willis was playing unbelievably well for his first game. He has a lot of potential. The run defense was a little weak, there was some over pursuing which allowed Edge to make cut backs for big gains. The pass defense looked awesome but Leinhart is basically a rookie learning a new system.
The offense was not so hot but they should get better and that last drive will do wonders for Smiths' confidence. The most impressive thing about the game was that they overcame their mistakes and pulled off a nice drive when they really needed it.

Alex Smith pulled together a series of clutch plays that last minute despite looking "ify" for 3.5 quarters of football, but most of that was due to that piece of shit O-line. Someone DEFINATELY needs to whip that fucking O-line into shape, WTF ![[Mad]](mad.gif)

I'm not ready to say that either had kick ass D. I think they both had really sloppy offense. Regardless, it is all about wins and losses and the niners are 1-0.
The set of downs that made the difference are right here:
1-10-SF 46 (2:00) 11-A.Smith pass short right to 83-A.Battle to 50 for 4 yards (24-A.Wilson; 58-K.Dansby). PENALTY on ARZ-58-K.Dansby, Face Mask (5 Yards), 5 yards, enforced at 50. Caught at 50.
1-1-ARI 45 (1:52) 11-A.Smith pass incomplete short middle to 21-F.Gore.
2-1-ARI 45 (1:45) 11-A.Smith pass incomplete deep middle to 82-D.Jackson (25-E.Green).
3-1-ARI 45 (1:37) 11-A.Smith pass incomplete short left to 83-A.Battle (25-E.Green).
4-1-ARI 45 (1:34) 11-A.Smith scrambles left end ran ob at ARZ 20 for 25 yards (47-A.Francisco).
If that fourth down play didn’t play the way it did, people would be calling for the offensive coordinator’s job for not putting up one running play on what started as a ‘first down and one’ set of downs….
