Palo Alto police seek suspect in bowling alley shooting
PALO ALTO -- A man who shot an employee while apparently trying to rob a bowling alley this morning prompted officers to seal off the area and conduct two searches of Palo Alto Bowl, suspecting the man was still inside, authorities said.
The first of the afternoon searches proved fruitless. Police were still conducting the second one at 4 p.m.
"At this point I don't think there's much of a chance of finding anybody in there," Sgt. Sandra Brown said as the second search was winding down.
The wounded employee was recovering from surgery at Stanford Hospital, Brown said.
Police described the suspect as a white male about 5-foot-7 and between 25 and 35 years of age. He was wearing a black ski cap and a black jersey-like shirt with white lettering across the chest. It is unknown what the lettering said. He was also carrying a dark backpack.
Police were called to the scene at about 8:45 this morning, Brown said.
There were three employees inside the south Palo Alto bowling alley at 4329 El Camino Real at the time, Brown said. The injured male was able to walk out of the bowling alley with the help of a co-worker. The Palo Alto Police Department's SWAT team arrived around 12:50 p.m. rescued one of the three employees -- a female -- who had locked herself in a room during the incident.
All the employees were accounted for, Brown said.
Police cordoned off about three blocks around the bowling alley and had a sniper posted on the rooftop of a nearby hotel as they searched, Brown said.
