Teen Becomes Oakland's 78th Homicide

OAKLAND -- Less than 24 hours after a plan to fight street violence was unveiled, an Oakland teen was gunned down as he walked down a street Monday night on the way to see his girlfriend.
Witnesses told police that a group of men walked up behind Terrell Martin, 19, at about 10:47 p.m. in the 2400 block of E.16th St. in Oakland's Fruitvale District and fatally shot him once in the head.
Martin's mother -- Robin Cardinas -- was to the scene and shocked to see her son's body draped with a yellow coroner's blanket.
"I flew down here," she said. "I expected to see him…the ambulance here and my son saying 'Mom, I got shot.' I come down here and he's lying on the ground covered by a yellow thing."
Cardinas called the killers "cowards."
"These people crept up behind him -- these cowards," she said. "They crept up behind him in a car and shot him in the back of the head."
Cardinas said her son had been having nightmares about being gunned down on the street.
"Two nights in a row he had a dream that he had gotten shot," she said. "Yesterday morning he said 'Mom, I had another dream that someone had come up behind me and shot me. But I didn't feel anything.'"
Martin was in the neighborhood to see a girl he had met on Myspace.com. His slaying was Oakland's 78th homicide. The city had 94 homicides for the entire year.
Police said no suspects were reported and no arrests have been made.

Damn looks like the town is after the "Murder Capitol" title again. Some silly shit going on down there, these days.

WOW thats hella sad adn even sadder that people have nothing better to do then go around shotting people like that get a fuckin hobbie or somethign that doesnt involve you hurting other people I hope the people hwo did that get what they deserve and rip to him and my prayers go to him and his family

Unless New orleans had had over 300 murders in the last month.... As of mid june the murder toll was up to 53 deaths http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2006-06-20-national-guard-new-orleans_x.htm
My quick research shows Washinton D.C. has already had 96 deaths and was once named the murder capitol of the U.S. when their was 472 homicides

I have been in alot of ghettos, but I can tell you DC, is the real deal. Makes Oakland look like Willy Wonkas chocolate factory. Right behind the Capitol too...lol. I remember when lil ass city Palo Alto made the murder capitol.
Anyone have the link to the news story about the shoplifting part? I am curious.
