so yeah.. I had a MAC cold air intake with a larger MAF, but I took it off today and put the stock one back on, because I dont have the money for a tuner to up the fuel for it right now, and my motor has started to ping a little bit again.
So I just went out on a test drive, and its so much quieter under WOT, the revs fall a bit faster, the idle is smoother and doesnt float, and the motor starts up better too. It feels like the motor has a bit more power when you are changing gears and stuff, but it doesnt seem to pull as hard... I just miss the sound the most.
So the intake is going to sit in my garage until I sell it or have enough money to waste on my motor again... if I want to make it faster, then I will get gears next.... how much does a speed cal cost?

it depends on how the CAI works. We have seen some of them cause the car to go WAY lean.

yeah the car ran lean i guess... it would ping sometimes, and whatever... i know i dont need a tune, but I was on a stupid little quest for power, just to "mod my car"
whatever im just glad its off, the car runs safer and better, and yeah...
i did the right thing right? I mean that stupid thing wasnt really doing anything.

dude.. i'm sorry, but the only cai that i know really leans out your mix is the densecharger.. why don't you keep your stock maf and install the CAI? i don't get why you would get a bigger maf if everything else is stock? make sure that the maf you have is calibrated for your stock injectors. good luck.

how do you get it calibrated? the sensor is stock, just the tube that it sits in is bigger.

if the sensor is stock then you don't need to get it recalibrated. What type of intake are you talking about?

he said it was a MAC cai. the bigger maf must be calibrated to the injectors that you have.

The maf does not need to be recalibrated... I mean, he's still has the stock sensor so it should work fine.. First time I've heard of a Mac leaning a car out that much.. if could be that the maf is in a funky position. Back when I first had the 03, the densecharger was one of the few CAIs they had available. Their first designed moved the maf sensor a bit and it would cause the car to really lean out (give it a lot more HP than other CAIs) but it would also make the car more likely to stall. I simply replaced it for a steeda intake, but shortly after densecharger fixed this by positioning the maf in the stock position.
good luck.

and what does that little screen do?
what purpose does that serve?
Its just too much fuss for not really doing anything, right? I mean its not like its actually adding any real power, I bet all the hardcore guys are just reading this and smiling....
