I wanted to pick one of these up, but seems to be too many bugs.
Would you say this is a frequent problem in these new 5.0's? [ November 28, 2011, 12:11 PM: Message edited by: JUNKYARD5.0 ]

People need to check their oil like the owners manual says. I've seen guys run these motors OUT of oil before the first oil change (5000+ miles).
They will use significant amounts of oil with the factory fill (1qt+ every 1K miles). It seems once the first oil change is out of the way they use far less. Must be some sort of break-in oil the factory is using. The PCV is also a problem, especially when compression braking. The stock PCV is horribly free flowing, people have reported significant amounts of oil in the intake manifold.
My 2012 burned 1/2 qt in less than 500 miles. I did an oil change with Ford Brand Oil and installed a more restrictive PCV from a GT500. It hasn't used any significant amount of oil in the last 700 miles.

Anything can break, no matter how new or what brand, otherwise mechanics wouldnt have work to do.

Got one here too...6,000 miles on it.
Cold Air Intake and tune done by a shop well known here. #8 cylinder went bye bye. Tuner said not his issue, Ford said warranty voided due to tune. It was a lose, lose situation for the guy. Sucks....only a cold air and tune, and this is his result. We are pulling the motor and tearing it down to bare block. Installing a Livernois FORGED rotating assembly.

The #8 is an interesting one... I originally thought it was an ignition timing issue (tuners adding global spark), but I've seen factory lean issues On stone stock cars and logged them. I believe there's more going on. No doubt high ignition timing, a lean condition, or lack of oil can take out any motor. The modular Ford has always run hotter on the driver's side rear (#8).
Time will tell where the problem lies.

oh im glad i bought my challenger then one of these...i came real close too.. lets hope it doesnt turn into a major problem for ford. Im still pissed about newer fords models since i lost 3 spark plugs on my f-150. Sorry but it put a sour taste when it came time to buying a new car & truck. now i own a new dodge truck and new dodge car.

So far it seems like the #8 going south is limited to cars with improper tunes. The tranny is another issue. Fortunately, the Boss engine has forged internals and it also uses a different clutch/pressure plate. I wish it had a different tranny too but it seems like Ford is getting a handle on the tranny issues. Either way, it won't be my daily driver.
