Open up an account through someone like Vanguard. Start with a Roth IRA brokerage account. All of your money invested will grow tax free. You can only contrubute a max of 5,500.00 per year. You can also start a brokerage account through vanguard and invest in ETFs, mutual funds and stocks. I'd suggest starting out with low cost mutual funds and ETFs (Total stock market funds, s&p 500 funds, international funds and growth and income funds.) Buying stocks can be done after you have built up some cash. The Market IMHO is very high and should see a correction in the future. That being said I personally have a majority of my money in cash, or invested in some higher risk products like TVIX, UVXY and VXX. [/qb]
How much is roughly being returned on a 5500 investment out of pocket though on say a 1 year basis? [/qb]
You should be thinking long term investing at a young age. If you started a Roth IRA at 18 years old. Invested the max 5,500.00 until you were 65 years old...... and you averaged 10% over that time period. You would end up with over 5 million dollars. Tax free..... Because you invested the money with post tax income. So it grows tax free. That's over 4.5 million dollars in growth. There's no reason why anyone in the united states should retire broke. If eveyone just lived on less than what they made. This country would be a lot better off. :patriot: [/qb]
I’m sure a lot of it has to deal with up bringing. Many people are not taught about saving/investing in the household. Luckily my dad taught my brother and I early. I have had a 401k and Roth IRA since 18. Although, my dad basically forced me to open them lol. [/QB]
