What are your thoughts on these as comparables? I knot his is a mustang site, and I for one am not a GM fan (unless its a vette), but I've done a little reading on CMC cars and read that stock 4th Gen camaros have pretty well sorted suspensions compared to a stock mustang (sn95 platform). Does anyone have any input on this? Are the camaros' 3-link stock rearend as good as a mustang with MM or Griggs 3-link rearend?

Reason I ask is because I really need/want another track car and looking for a CHEAP way out LOL! I found a 94 CMC-ish camaro for a decent price that caught my attention, but I really dont know if I want to jump ship to a chevy. I may just opt for a miata and call it a day though [Confused]

If you get a cheby, make sure its a 98 and up true catfish otherwise you'll regret getting the LT1. LS1 dude bruuuuuh

Are we talking about racing with rules like in a series or just a weekend toy?

Nate, I'm primarily looking for a track day runner...something cheap, handles decently well, and competitive for some friendly track day fun [Wink]

Keep in mind that most stock ls1 camaros run about as fast if not faster then most HCI foxbodies.... LT1's suck! LS1 > SN95...

lets settle it by doing a ls1 swap in a sn95 and put a panhard bar on it, then go have a blast.

Not true. I usually see catfishes get eaten by foxes from stock to H/C/I. [Wink]

The difference between your racing style and what I'm talking about is that I rarely would be using it to go fast in a straight line [Wink]

What he said. LS1 torque + lighter SN95 chassis + panhard set up.

I've been wanting to do this for a cheap yet fun daily, but I'm now at the point where I'm a sissy and want comfort/luxury in a daily driver (X5) [Frown] Not too mention not looking like a punk kid behind the wheel.

Ian, in CMC the camero at the same weight as a mustang does a little better because the 350 makes more torque. And the torque curve can be very flat.
Now move to AI where the motors are pretty equal. Things change.

Hey troy! thanks for the feedback. I'm really hitting my head even considering a camaro but I figure I'd ask since I know some guys on here, yourself being one of them, may have experienced driving and/or racing against them (on a race track and not at a stop light!).

This is the car I'm partially considering: http://www.camaromustangchallenge.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4396

Ian,
In all my CMC races we had Mustangs, Camaros and Firebirds win. Often times it was the driver that won as much as the car. I would say do not go the Miata route without first driving one if possible. They certainly are affordable, and there lap times comparable, but they are not a lot of fun compared to driving a V8. I have driven both and it's a bunch more fun when you can use the throttle to steer the car.

Saw a lt1 camaro track car for $4900 when I was at Sonoma with NASA a couple weeks ago. You really should have just kept your cobra. Can't imagine saving that much money from selling it and going to a "cheap" track car.

John, that camaro for $4900 is actually the car I was considering. The guy is also selling another one thats setup similarly but cheaper, but the thing about it is that he messed up the wiring in the car so it doesnt start right now LOL! I'm not sold on the idea yet, but it was something I wanted to consider. I'm also considering a miata, e30, e36, and a first gen RX7 [burnout]

You're right, I wish I would have kept my cobra, but i sold it for a 'bigger and better' purpose [Wink] . All is said and done now, and now I'm just looking for a new track toy. This time though, I'm hoping to find something with racecar safety equipment and ideally top notch suspension upgrades. I'm hoping that I wont need to 'build' the car as I did prior [patriot]

Sorry, not too likely. LS1's trap 10MPH+ over a stock fox easily, so unless it's stoplight to stoplight don't let it go on the freeway.

And besides LS1's in 6spd get nearly 30MPG
