I don't see why not. It cant be any worse that a day shot up to Tahoe and back. It should be worth it, the track looks pretty sick. I'm also going to Laguna Seca next week but not driving. Gonna watch my pops take some laps in a 2010 Mustang track car through these guys

Yea, I'll see what I can do. I really need to get out on the track already! I've been itching for some open track events for damn near 2 years now! I remember your pops talking about that track day he won...should be lots of fun!

Nice man, I'm driving on Sunday and will be a spectator on Saturday. Man if you could be so kind and take me for a spin and school me on the track, I would really appreciate it. If not I totally understand. I'm trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible. I talked Ian & it sounds like a really good chance that he will make it. I cant wait! Come on, I know there are a few more of us that could make this trip. Who's it gonna be?

Jay...just use painter's tape. Or if you want some magnetic ones, you can get some at TAP plastics in fremont. Get a couple feet of magnetic "paper" (not sure what its called) and just cut some out. I actually have some from when I used to Autox but they're white and so is my car [Embarrassed] I actually should go and get some more of that magnetic paper stuff too [Big Grin]

Last session out is usually 4:30 but it all depends on how the order goes. If hpde 1 goes out first then your last session will be like 3:30 so you'll go home early.

Mines 2.5 but mine is a track only car. Roger Kraus Racing in Hayward can set it up for you. They've done mine before and tell them you want a street/track setup so you don't have to keep going back for a new alignment.

Hell yeah man. Do you have a video camera? We should try to get you to run in front of my dad because I just got done with the dash mount for my camera. It turned out pretty sick. I removed the clock pod and made a custom bracket that bolts to the dash using the existing holes. I will also be holding another video camera on the side of the track. I'm also bringing a couple of different camera's. We will have plenty of pics and video.

Nice! Yea I have a little HD modal Zi8...like the Flip. I plan to mount it on the inside of my windshield if I can find the bolt for my mount/holder.

I'll try to get in front of your dad...but does anyone know how they choose the order of vehicles?

NASA has a really good program but a few years of "20 minute track session, wait two hours" got a bit old for me.

There are other alternatives when you're ready.

please do share [Big Grin] I'm always open to other organizations as long as they fit into my schedule.

If you go out together in a group then you will be able to drive together. NASA is cool because you get to watch open tracking as well as real races like CMC, AI, AIX, spec Miatas etc. I think this time it's bmw's and Porsche series. Nasa packs a lot into a wekkend that's for sure.

Generally the average track time for a club event is 1:45 to 2 hours. 1:45 for clubs that have 4 run groups, 2 hours for 3 run groups. Weekend events tend to be higher priced than weekdays.

Clubs I've run with....

Hooked On Driving http://www.hookedondriving.com/

Very good beginner program, usually 4 run groups but one of the more expensive clubs.

Trackmasters http://www.trackmasters-racing.com/

Good beginner program, 3 and/or 4 run groups depending on the event. One of the lowest priced.

NCRC http://www.ncracing.org/

The lowest price. 4 run groups so it's 1 hour, 45 minutes of run time. No formal beginner program.

YPTD http://www.yourprivatetrackday.com/

Very good beginner program. 3 run groups. Limited number of events. More expensive.

Speed Ventures http://www.speedventures.com/

Mostly run in SoCal with some events up here. Moderate price, good beginner program.

Shelby Club http://www.norcal-saac.org/ot/otdate.htm

No formal beginner program. 3 run groups. Moderate price. More restrictive for advance group drivers (no passing in turns).

Beyond those there are the marquee based clubs (ie BMW, Lotus, Miata, etc). Some are only for that brand (like Porsche club) but most allow any type of car and a lot of them are reasonably priced. Most offer some form of instruction for beginners.

Not sure on those, that is something you'll have to mess with through out the day. Keep in mind that they go up between 4-7 lbs depending on how much pressure you build up (driving style and track temp.)
There will be air for you out there and people will want to help out newbies.

Anybody got a little propane Webber? I'll bring gas and dawgs. [Big Grin] I have a feeling that our cars our going to need a full detail after this trip. Thats what I'm saying! I'm not trying to go out my first time in slick conditions [Embarrassed]

According to the hourly forecast on weather.com, it's gonna be showering all day tomorrow up until 10am on saturday...then from there the sun is supposed to come out. Hopefully, since most of us are running hpde1/2, our first session is at 10:45 so hopefully the groups before us are able to dry the track off nicely [burnout]

WOW! What a day that was! One of the funnest days of my life hands down [worship] First time being on the track was awesome for sure! BIG THANKS to the cafords members that contributed to making this day a success...Greg (9cobra7), Jay (snakebit), Jeff, Jeo (S4ohshus), and it was nice meeting you Paul (MtnDew98)!

I learned a hell of a lot and finally realized that those dinky miatas really are bad ass on the track...us muscle backed mustang drivers definitely can't go in there big headed because those small cars will be on your ass [Big Grin]

I have a ton of pictures and a few videos that I'll post up later. Thanks again guys and Jay, don't worry bro, the cobra will be back and ready in no time bro [patriot]

Yeah that track is pretty sick. The best part of the day for me was going for a ride along with Greg (9cobra7), a real good guy that can drive his ass off. Its amazing what a light car with good suspension and a good driver can do. [worship] [worship] Yeah the Cobra will get back on the track, I'm just gonna take a step back and take a break for a while. I'm hoping the block is cracked. Not even 500 miles on the motor and game over. Oh well, watcha going to do. My dad had a blast and thought everybody was real good people. He felt like shit knowing that he messed up 2 mustangs out on 2 tracks in 1 week. Epic FAIL [Eek!] I'm sure he didn't sleep well last night, I know I didn't.

Yeah that was a good day out, my car was dialed in except for some brake wear at the end of the day. Snakebit, sorry about your motor but glad to hear you'll be out again in the future and didn't throw in the towel because of your misfortune.
Nice pics Sydewayz, lets see some of the next track your at. Your an addict already I can tell. [Wink]

Thanks Greg....I have a lot more I still need to sort through and a couple drive-by passes of you going through turns 10-11. I'll email them you in a couple days.

Jay, definitely don't throw in the towel. Like I said yesterday, I could definitely be something smaller than it looks. Just do a complete leak down and compression check to see if it really is the head gasket. You're car was running too good out there to just quit now!

I went in the bluemilk trailer and seen all four cars. The pics are expensive but they are sick.

I still can't believe how fast those miata's are on the track. WOW!! I got money they would spank 90 percent of the people on here on a road course.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. It just really sucked because I just finished it and wasn't planing and doing it all over so soon. I'm gonna give it a week then I'm pulling that bitch.

When I'm an instructor, I tell beginners "Your in a passing zone. Check your mirrors. Check your gauges." Over time you'll develop a habit of glancing at the gauges 3-4 times a lap even if you move up to open passing.

Great advise that was never given to your dad skakebit. Pick a spot every lap that you at least check the gauges so what happened to your motor never happens again. There is so much to pay attention to at speed but you need to be consistent and develop the skills early in a racing atmosphere.
I don't know if they mentioned this stuff in HPDE 1 drivers meeting but they should

Nope, they definitely didn't mention to look at our gauges in the HPDE1/2 meetings. I probably only looked down a couple times per session, when I should've been looking down at least a few times each lap. Thanks for the heads up [patriot]

yeah no doubt, but I did remind him before every run "LOOK AT THE GAUGES" but I guess he was pre occupied passing about half the field in HPDE 1 & 2. I will say he was getting down in his last session going late in the corners to hit the delayed apex, passed a lot of people coming out of corners to the straights.

Great meeting you guys too. Sorry to hear about your Cobra Jay, Ian your white Cobra was tits. Really love the look of the Saleen setup and yours is very clean.

Those Miatas can be pretty damn fast on track, especially the ones with turbos. Some of them will really blow your doors off.

That dyno at the track gained me 11 rwhp and 15 rwtq. I'm putting down 263hp to the wheels and 294 rwtq. I'm pretty happy with the gain and its running where it should for air/fuel.

Hope to see you guys again at the next event.

Definitely nice meeting you Paul! You're GT is very clean...reminds me of my old yellow 95 GTS. Congrats on getting your a/f ratio dialed in! Your car was looking really clean too! I wish I was able to snap some shots of it while you were on track. You'll definitely be seeing me at more upcoming events [patriot]
