NorCal Shelby Club is having a driving school on Sat April 12 at Thunderhill. Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday are open track sessions.

DRIVING SCHOOL - April 12, 2008

NorCal Shelby American Auto Club
Thunderhill Raceway


SCHEDULE:

7:30AM Driver Instructor meeting – on concrete patio outside of building
8:00AM Student meeting – inside building
8:30AM Passenger car laps with instructors, to show drills and track
9:00AM Begin the on track drills (plus skid pad) – no helmets (55mph max.)
10:45AM Come off the track – cars stay in pre-grid lane
10:55AM Debriefing and chalk talk and questions/answers –inside building
(Cones are being removed from track)
11:15AM Begin lapping – full track
12:30PM Off the track – lunch

DRILLS:

Front Straight - Slalom Learn how car feels at it’s limit
Turn 1-2 - Threshold braking Learn limits of braking
Turn 3 - Off Camber Turn Learn what off camber does to traction limits
Turn 7-8 - Negotiate a Gate Learn to slow enough (not too much)to negotiate a turn.
Turn 9a – cones showing line Learn how to crest a blind hill
Turn 10 – Threshold braking Learn limits of braking
Turn 11 – Proper line Learn late apex turn and why
Skid Pad will be set up in upper paddock

GROUPS and INSTRUCTOR PROCEDURES:

Four driving groups.

9:00AM to 10:45AM: Group (1) will start on wetted skid pad in West paddock. Group (2) and (3) will start on front straight.
Instructors stay with each car while on track. They get out of the car at the skid pad and go to the next car ready to start drills on track.

11:15AM all groups to pre-grid (with helmets). Instructors in each car for 4 laps. Then come in. Instructor will get into another car (if needed) or go back out. We encourage instructor/student swapping.

Hey this was crazy fun. I raced my vert up there and had tons of clean safe fun. I highly recomend people try this it will make the quarter mile seem really really boring.
