I just picked up an '87 GT 5 speed for a song and dance from a friend. The car sat for 3 years and I was told the starter needed to be replaced. I replaced the battery to see what worked and didn't work.

With the new battery, the car had power but would not crank. I replaced the ignition switch, starter solenoid, and the starter, and it still wouldn't crank at all.

I tried bridging the positive terminal on the starter solenoid to the small post, trying to bypass the clutch safety switch and it still wouldn't crank.

Any ideas?

Fixed it. It was the clutch pedal safety switch after all.
