Will a 8LD ecu work for a mass air conversion for a 87 stang

Yes, the 8LD is for stick shift MAF cars. The difference in tunes between among AOD and among stick EECS is very small. Use what matches your transmission and enjoy.

What do you mean what matches my transmissions? I have a 87 mustang stock t5. Will that be ok?

Yes. If you want plug in and play compatibility, use a T5 EEC with a T5 equipped car. The 8LD is a California T5 EEC so you are okay. Advance the timing a couple of degrees and you'll be fine. Always retard the timing to 7 degrees, the minimum allowed for SMOG tests. Small timing differences are about the only noticeable changes between different EEC tunes. AOD EECs run a lot more part throttle timing than T5 EECs for example.
