ok so I just recently got most of the kinks out on this 88 drop 302. got spark, got injector pulse, got fuel, set the firing order correct but still no start. not quite sure where my next move is going to be, jus put new starter, coil, battery, battery cables, starter solenoid, ignition module, distributor is good, as well as rotor, tps is good, idle air new...

any ideas let me know, it'll help a bunch

Can you hear the fuel pump priming when you turn the key?

Is it cranking over? Almost starting? Or just a click? If it's turning over, does I sound consistent or is it slow then fast or vice versa?

I mean I'm not exactly sure how to write noises that are coming out of my mouth lol.

yes it cranks, compression sounds pretty consistent, sounds like it wants to start just not starting. tried both firing orders still nothing but everything is there

What's your fuel pressure at? Need to be around 40 psi

try flipping the dizzy 180*

the distributor has a small cap on it. Make sure that the cap is in. Sometimes ppl forget to put that back in. If you did maybe it sounds like your not getting enough fuel. Check all grounds also.

Happy to help. Try a fuel filter first could be clogged. But a new pump wouldn't hurt

I'm also having the same issues with my car. I bought fuel pump relay, brand new gas tank with fuel pump/fuel filter. Doing the same thing, it just cranks all day. I thinks it's the firing order but idk?

So, 2 gallons anit enough to start a 5.0, so I added rest of the gas from the lawnmower gas container next thing you know my car almost started but unfortunately the battery died. Lucky my neighbor has a batter charger! Will update tomorrow.
Fuel is out of the equation. Now hopefully it will run!

Is the engine ECU harness correct for the year car you are building? Are the wires stock to that car from head to tail? a miss match can effect start.

So I got spark in each cylinder. Still doesn't want to run. May I need to hit tdc on distributor on #1 spark plug? I didn't set the tdc (My brother in law) set it up for me because I didn't know how to do it but look fairly easy to do. Put the finger in #1 and do 180 to hit compression then mark it. After that when it runs set timing right?

Find compression on the forward cylinder passenger side. Usually a finger or towel while you crank it over. Then use a ratchet on the crank pulls and a screwdriver in the spark plug hole to find when the piston stops moving or slightly goes down and bump it back a tad. After that point the rotor on the dizzy (should have been out during procedure), use the cap to tell you which is number 1. After that stab the dizzy down, if you see the rotor move forward then take it back out and when it's lined up with 1 again, go back a tooth so when it falls it will be dead on.

Yeah I did some online research also so hopefully I get it running tomorrow. Gotta learn somehow!
Thanks for the info!

So I got it running for 4 seconds and it turned off.
It will go up to 3k in the rpm and will shut off.
I think I did the tdc wrong.

I know I have to remove the dizzy upon the procedure of acquiring tdc.

So my question is ... do I stick the dizzy after I feel the total compression is done (finger is number 1 spark plug hole on the passenger side) meaning I stick the dizzy after I feel no air coming out forcing my finger out?

I did set it at 10 on the harmonic balancer and not 0 because I read on corral forum.
