So last year i had posted how my Rubber Fuel lines had melted and had holes like swiss after the fuel filter; so a few weeks ago Finally got to drop the tank and drain it well gas looked like a Dark Ice tea Color with rust particles throughout so am in process of getting new tank. and will be replacing all lines with new ones.

Now that all the lines/fuel pump are going to be new i want to rebuild the carb. Well Holley doesn't rebuild anything anymore and the cost to have someone rebuild will cost a few bucks short of buying a new carb. My question is besides the Holley DVD(which doesn't give step by step on rebuild) what is the BEST Book or INFO on rebuilding a holley 4150 style carb?

Rebuild kit is only $30 on summit

Any Special Tools needed?

Definatly no special tools needed.
Plenty of step by step on YouTube.
It not that difficult.
If you are going to hit the strip I would suggest notched rear float and jet extensions.
If your motor is running a cam that has good vacuum I would suggest a 10.5 or 8.5 power valve. Of the shelf most carbs and rebuild kits come with a 6.5.

Car will be a DD for the most part...

Track maybe a few times ayear now since the kids. Funny got the car to replace last hobby and now its being turned in to a DD..

Cam is unknown believed to be a edelbrock cam that was part of performer intake and edelbrock 600cfm carb kit.


Sorry for my Ignorance but what would Notching the rear float and jet extensions do?

And what does putting a lager power valve due per say. Again sorry dont know jack about carbs..

Yes those that is the flat and extensions. As a car accelerates away from the line the fuel in the rear bowl is pulled away from the jets. The extensions place the jets in the displaced fuel. The float is needed for the extensions to clear.

The power valve opens when manifold vacuum drops when you open the throttle. This is to add mor fuel until vacuum comes back up. The jets if sized properly are for cruise. Not hard acceleration. The trouble is most aftermarket carbs are calibrated generically. Holley sizes things in them so that you could put it on a 289 or 460 and it will run ok. Not perfect but ok.

A small block with a mild to stock cam will make 20 inches of vacuum at cruise. With the 6.5 power valve the extra enrichment does not come in until the throttle is opened up quite a bit. Most likely it will have a little lean spot under acceleration from a light cruise. A 10.5 will open much sooner. Every stockish motor I have added a 10.5 power valve to has ran much better.

So this would probably where the Lag comes from when i accelerate? its like a 2sec from when i push the accelerator (when Car was running it had always been that way since i bought the carb)

Not likely. A 2 second bog is more likely accelerator pump system. Also likely to be timing.

Buy this book and read everything in it that has to do with the 4150.

get the kit, holly kit only, for a 100 bucks ill do it, is it simple ? for me yes. Ive built hundreds,but something I wouldn't advice to somebody that had to post on here if its hard or not. sorry just from my experiences.
