Been playing around with the idea of replacing the exhaust on my 99 cobra. Currently it appears to be stock manifolds and stock mid pipe with welded in Spintech square mufflers (dunno which ones exactly but they are spintech)

I know there is a lot of power to gain from swapping the mid pipe. Since this is california... does anyone have an aftermarket catted mid pipe on their 32v modular motors? If so which one and how do you like it?

I don't want to dick around with any possible problems for smog on this car lol.

As far as sound goes the spin tech mufflers sound good but i am looking for a bit more bark from the pipes. Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance everyone!

Can't go wrong with Bassani. Nice deep rumble. You can go with a straight through muffler which will be a lot louder also. Borla/SLP are pretty loud.

From what I understand, there is no off the shelf CA-legal mid pipe for these cars. If the smog tech wants to get real technical and look for the numbers(or lack thereof) on the cats it will fail. I LOVE my spintechs, but on a mod motor car, I would go with a straight through muffler like Borla, SLP LM1, Bassani etc. if you decide to sell those Spintech's, let me know! My 97 cobra with the two primary cats gutted and SLP loudmouth 1 cat-back sounded good, but SO much better with out cats.

Might as well go long tube and no cats because a CARB legal aftermarket H or X pipe does not exist.

Either way you run the risk of being cited for a modified emission components and sent to the state referee.
