Over the weekend I replaced the timing cover gasket on my 94gt. Having to remove the harmonic balancer was a most. I striped one of the bolts from the pulley which I thought not to be a big deal because the pulley would still come off. After I put it back with the tool I borrowed from krAgen it seemed like it couldn't turn any more but the washer that kit comes with was stuck in the hole of the pulley and after wrestling it I proceeded to tighten the bolt. Now when I turn the car on it shakes when accelerating even while just on neUtral. Could it be the harmonic balancer was not tighten all the way? Or does that not matter as Long as it's on the key way?

Is the pulley on correct? There should of been a metal piece that guides the pulley on the crank shaft correctly.

Take the belt and pulley off. Start the car. Does it still shake? Yes-then the balancer is either not on right or bad. No-then the pulley isn't on right.

It sounds to me like you probably didn't get the pulley on there right. Did you put a little bit of oil on the inside of the balancer and on the crank snout to help the balancer go on easy and straight? Did you look at the balancer to see the condition of the rubber ring?

The pulley never came off because of the striped bolt head. The gasket in the back seemed dry. I put that balancer as far as I could and then made sure it was tighten real good but maybe the gasket gave up when I Took it off .

Can't see how you replace a timing cover gasket and not pull the harmonic balancer? Unless we missed something.

He said harmonic balancer was removed but the crank pulley stayed on because he stripped a bolt. I say it's the harmonic balancer or it's on wrong.
