Will there be a big diff over stock gears compared to 3.73 ? What about performance diff between 4.10 vs 3.73

cant decide go 3.90

You think American muscle is best place to order gear set for $260

Posted by Tom Renzo (Member # 13165) on :

Randy has a good selection of gears but as far as i know they do not offer it in 3.9 for the 8.8. But i have been using his stuff for many years. Not sure if ford motorsport offers a 3.9. If memory serves they do not. Yucon does not also. But many aftermarket gear suppliers do.

What is your final drive ratio NOW!!! Performance increase will be determined by the gear set you now have(RATIO PLEASE)

Silly question but what type of rear end is in the 98 mustang gt. 8.8 what spline

Yukon offers 3.90 on American muscle

I am sure they do offer the 3.9 final but as far as i know Randy does not offer them for the 8.8.Just a talking point that is all. With a 5 speeder the 4.1-3.9 is a bit steep for a not so high revving ford engine. just me. The 3.7 is a better choice in my opinion. But then again the extreamly low torque of the 302 does present a little bit of an issue on final drive selections??

Stock is 28spline

The spline count has nothing to do with a change out of the ring & pinion. It only maters when changing carriers or axles.

What made you want 4.10 and what car was that in ??

I got 410s in my 01 bullitt and I love them I drive mines everyday 70 miles I'm always at 2 1/2 rpms on the freeway. I sometimes think about upgrading to bigger gears tho the 410 just ain't enough sometimes lol

Edit: Don't fear the gear [Wink]

4:10's FTW!

At 65 MPH T5 28 inch tire here is the difference

2250 RPM’s 3.73

2350 RPM’S 4.10

APP 100 RPM at 65 MPH

AUTO TRANNY at 65 MPH

2000 RPM’s 3.73

2300 RPM’s 4.10

300 RPM difference

Now you can decide accordingly.

You guys think a bfg comp 2 or nitto 555 in 275/40r17 will handle launches with 4.10s and 230whp 270lbft (estimated power ) I just keep hearing ppl say it will magnify traction issues but only traction issue I have is if I launch at 3k rpm

Had both 3.73 and 4.10s on my old pi swap set up go with 4.10s trust me. Faster and not that much difference on the hwy.

ALWAYS 4.10 unless you have twin turbo or something else that lets you take advantage of the lower rpms. otherwise you want to get the rpms up as quick as possible

you WILL cut more ET with 4.10's
you WILL NOT notice a difference in MPG
your rpma will be about 250 higher with the 4.4.10's than with 3.73's
you WILL NOT have to shift into 5th in the 1/4 mile
you WILL NOT tach 3000 doing 55, more like 3000 doing 75-80 based on tire size

dont fear the gear

Im just waiting to get everything installed at this point . Not worried much about hwy driving both my jobs are street commutes and anything thats going to help me get into the 13's with just pi cam/intake swap and good set of rubber . If 4.10 offer more joy to the driving experience than 3.73 im all for it snd im staying n/a maybe ported heads and comp cam later in the year
