I've been having the ever-so popular "not starting once in a while" syndrome...meaning I will drive the car (93 5.0L T5) without issues, then all of a sudden it won't start. Reading a lot about this issue, I "assumed" it was my TFI module, so I purchased a new Motorcraft one and replaced it. Seemed fine until Sunday when I drove to Livermore, played baseball, went to a friends house for 2 hours after that, came out and it wouldn't start. Looking around more, I looked at my coil. Took the coil wire (to the distributor) off the coil post and the post was coated with a white-ish film, perhaps electrolysis or something like that. I wiped it off, plugged in the coil wire and it fired right up. Now, my question is.....should I replace the coil or will it be enough to just clean off the coil post with a wire brush or emery cloth and call it good? I've had the car for 4 years now and don't know how old the coil is. Could be the original for all I know. Probably is. My wires are Mallory and are about 2 years old so they should still be good.

You'll be fine if you get the post clean and then keep it from getting corroded. Clean all the corrosion off all the posts and all the terminals on the wires also then coat everything with some dialectric grease if you have some, if you don't just use some vasoline. The auto part stores sell little "single use" packets of dialectric grease if you don't want to pop for a whole tube. I keep a tube around a put some on any electrical connection I'm working on on my cars to avoid the kind of problem you had.
