just today have been noticing that my volt gauge on my 2006 escalade has been going from 14v to 16v and checked with a volt meter and it is spikeing up do you guys kno if that means i got a short in the charging system if so can that mess things up any help is appreciated

Check your connections but it coul be your voltage regulator on your alternator

ill check all the connections and as far as the voltage regulator is that on the alternator or somewhere else

i just saw your response that voltage regulator is on the alternator so how can i tell if thats bad

I don't know if you have a short but I would be happy atleast its going from 14 to 16 and not 14 to 12 [Big Grin]

I'm not that deep into it but my buddy Daniel is. He owns
Advanced auto San Ramon
look them up he took care of my alt problems back in the day and I would go back anytime

A voltage spike is just as bad as a draining battery....

It sounds like the diode in your voltage regulator went out.
