I just picked up my block, pistons, crank and rods from the machine shop yesterday. I had the rotating assembly balanced. Shouldn't the pistons and rods be numbered for each cylinder? I didn't see numbers on them. Maybe I need to look closer at them.

No.

I know you will figure it out and not tryin to be a dick but if the pistons arent mounted to the rods make sure the valve orientation is correct and the chamfer on the rod goes to the crank throw......

Or you could have me assemble it even tho my 4 year old can do a pretty good job of it.....lol

I'm going to build it. Just haven't done one in like 15 years so I'm a little rusty and will be digging out my books and will possibly have some questions. Do you think its worth buying a fixed piston ring instal tool? I got plasma moly rings.

I just recall numbering everything on my last build. The valve reliefs were another question since they are deeper on one side of the piston is that makes sense but again, I need to take a closer look at the parts and will probably figure it out when I look at them. I'm just excited to get going on this engine build again. My car has been down since september!!

I like the summit aluminum adj ring compressor.

You probably have moly FACED rings which arent actually what you want for boost, but thats another story.

Im glad you are tackling it yourself!!!

Are the pistons floating or pressed?

If they are pressed on then look at the bottom of the rod and cap, one side will have a chamfer on it. That side goes against the crank throw. When that side is against the crank throw the valve relief orientation should be correct for that cylinder, if not sure look at the cylinder heads chamber.

I have seen the machine shop fuck this up.

I like the deeper valve reliefs, if one side is deeper but they are the same size reliefs, on the exhaust side.

Depending what pistons you are working with one relief should be bigger, not deeper, that is the intake valve relief.
