What would you recommend for a daily driver, going to be combined with afr 165s, rpm 2 intake, car currently has a xe258 cam, may go custom as long as smogability is maintained, not looking for any particular hp goals, excellent drivability is most important.

331 has better rod ratio and will give longer life than a 347.

Depends on the kit but for the money and what you are after the 331 will be better. That said I have no real experience with the 347 long term and only have the experience of the CHP 331's in applications like yours

I have no rev limiter so it does what it wants.
Just a very small split duration cam.
A local guy here in the north bay did it, he builds circle track cars.

I'm going to go outside the box...and this would actually save you some dough and still make power....stock 302 with your HCI and an S-trim...will make more power, be just as, if not more reliable, and get better gas mileage.....I did it for 2 years in a 5 speed, 3.55 geared coupe...made 416RW. got between 18-20 mpg on freeway and had no issues whatsoever....for the price of a stroker...you could get a nice rebuild of a 302 and have a blower...

had a custom cam for it..

drove like stock until I placed the right foot down...

331 vs 347 as a daily driver? I say either one as long as:

*Properly built
*Properly maintained
*Properly tuned

If equipped with similar hardware(specifically cam/heads/intake) I'd say the 347 would last longer just for the bit of extra torque and not having to wind it up higher as compared to the 331...just my opinion though.

Wow vary impressive mine waste half a tank in 50-60 miles going easy on it.
sounds like you need a tune..
mine get similar gas milage on the freeway.

With the 165 heads id go 331 or just do the blower 302 route. The heads at some point will be a limiter.

Or with those heads get a 317 and an anderson high rev cam and swing that biotch to 7200 rpm shifts.

331 is a better decision then 347 i know 347 has more cubic inches but a 331 will make up for that in top end power it is noted a 331 makes a better DD than a 347 gas prices for 1 and just overall reliablity but its like a catch 22 both motors are awesome its just on how deep are your pockets [Smile]
