I really want to go with a 351 in my 90 hatch, my biggest and only obsticle is obviously smog and all the limitaions. Is there any way to throw a 351 in there and have it legitimately "california legal?" Is there a special procedure I would have to follow? Any info, advice, personal expiriences would be appreciated. I'm no mechanic but if u use a gt40 intake and other stock looking parts it will be tough to say this is a 5.8 not a 5.0. I have all the swap stuff if your looking to buy

+1 don't tell them.. it's the easiest way.. if your running stock style parts.. most won't even be able to tell.. [Wink]

You can use all the stuff thats on your 302 but you will need different brackets for the a/c and power steering. they sell kits for it on summit or jegs. all the smog stuff will work also. i know you will need a different intake manifold, oil pan and exhaust manifold for the conversion. but it is possible to make it legal. ill see if i can find the complete write up on it and post it later

FYI my fathers 351 with 64cc afr 185's, Fcam and 1.7's and GT40 intake passes Texas emissions cleaner than a stock car. Bassani Catted X with shortie swap headers and all emissions equip on the car.
