Quick question. How many ft/lbs or what procedure do u use when bolting the lower intake manifold to the heads. I know the sequence in which to tighten the bolts but I have a fear of stripping the heads so I'm wondering how much torque to put on the them to get a good seal and not mess up anything. They are afr 185's if it matters.

running AFR 185 and a edelbrock rpm 2 w/1262 intake gaskets. I torque my intake bolts
18 ftlbs. seals just fine, no leaks at all. and I NEVER reuse the factory intake bolts, buy new (grade 8 or stainless) for less head aches [patriot]

im sure you can torque it a bit more but Im a little cautious when I wrench down on aluminum.

make sure the sealing surfaces are clean use brake cleaner and a clean rag. Also don't use gaskets for the ends of the intake (front/rear), use sealer, lay about a 3/8" thick bead. torque in sequence and you should be good. [patriot]

Thanks man

I'm using some arp intake mani bolts. I just noticed that when I pulled my manifold the bolts were LOOSE. I followed AFR's instructions of just hand tightening them but it wasn't enough. I will definitely use some silicone on the ends

All I had was a big torque wrench that on went down to 20ft lbs. The edelbrock site said 15-18lbs, I figured 20 wouldn't hurt.

The gt40x heads and cobra lower require 22-25 ft lbs.. Just check them after running for a bit to make sure the gasket dosent collapse (and re torque if it does)..
