Hey guys,

I have a 87 5.0 stock motor w/ 170k
There is a strange ticking sound coming from my engine, took the car to a friend and he sais it could be lifter not charging. Before I tear down the engine what are the symptoms of a failing lifter? TIA

loud ticking, usually a clatter worse when cold, i doubt its a lifter but you never know

Check for exhaust leaks, is it louder when the engine is cold?

no it is not louder when its cold, when @3k rpm it becomes more of a vibration than a tick sound.
