Im about to get a truck to tow my bass boat. I like the lightnings and wanted to know what u all thought about towing a boat long distances with one? or should i just stick with a non blown ford?

Get a powerstroke if you plan to tow ALOT. It wil get much better mileage than a lightning. I towed a car trailer with my brother's lightning and it got about 10mpg.

Yeah I heard the L's are alway's in the boost while towing so the mileage is horrible. If You are just towing a small portion of the time and the boat is'nt too big then the L would be ![[Cool]](cool.gif)

Yep, anytime I had my foot in the gas the thing was making no less than 4psi. The truvk also had a 4lb pulley though.

Lightnings are cool to tow with, My dad has towed all my cars with his and he tows his Cobra to the track all the time with it

If you're going to mod it and tow, make sure to have AND USE the towing tune when you do. If you tow on a max performance tune it can cause pinging and potential engine damage. If you're going to leave it stock, then they tow very well but (as far as I remember)they're only rated to tow 5000lbs. The only other down side is the poor gas mileage that was already mentioned.

I've never owned a powerstroke, so I don't know from experience, but I would have to assume they get at least 5mpg more than a blown gas truck when pulling the same load.

A modded lightining with a towing tune and performance tune on a flip chip would serve as a dual puprose truck. Im just not to comfortable with the low mpg while towing 4-8hrs hours round trip every weekend in the spring/summer. thanks

if you plan on going turbo desiel, dont kid your self go with cummins. i love ford truck but if i am spending all that money on a truck its going to be a dodge cummins.

Dodge may have a good diesel.... but the rest of the truck blows! My 02 Powerstroke gave me 22 MPG @ 65 MPH.... I get 18 MPG now with 35" tires, and chip, intake, and exhaust and 3:73's. Towing my 28' enclosed trailer at over 12,500lbs. gives me 15 to 16 MPG. Plus... it's 4 wheel drive, and has 4 doors, and will spin the tires from a dead stop with my trailer hooked to it.... try that with a Lightning!!!

Cummins a good motor yes. But the Dodeges absolutly suck ass! I have a 7.3 PSD. I get around 20 MPG all the time. Mine is 2wd, so when I tow it really doesn't change at all. Oh yeah and Notch 1320 is right. Even with the trailer it will light them up. Once that thing gets some boost build up there is a TON of TQ to put down to the ground.
