i have a 86 notch back coupe. I finished the five lug conversion on it and i bought new 1996 cobra wheels for it and i was wonder what is the widest tire i could fit on a 17x8 wheel i wanna go with a 45 sieres tire..

255-45-17 would fit nice on those wheels any wider than that and you'll have to roll your fenderwells.

i actually cut off my inner feder lip in the rear almost completly off. do you think it is possible to get wider and also have a tire that would work with my rim?

you can squeeze a 275 tire on there, but there will be some serious sidewall bulge. as mentioned 255/45 is a good tire to go with. if you really want wider tires then your only option is to widen the wheel if you want to do it right.

Ive got 275/40/17 tires on my 93 cobra wheels that are 7.5" wide with no cutting done. Not too much bulge. They get great traction.
