What have you guys used in the past to replace bad cats? I've checked online everywhere, and it seems people are only selling 49 state cats (which I'd get, but doubt I could find a shop to weld them in... correct me if I'm wrong or tell me of a place that will).

And the estimates from shops... are just silly.

just get a new h-pipe...probably be cheaper.

they are usually $350-$400 for a hi-flow cat h-pipe.

Muffler shops sell HIgh Flow Cats..

if they sell them they HAVE to be legal in CA.

what i am doing is...gettin an off road H pipe and using a friends stock H for smog.

I just came from a muffler shop today and they are the only licensed places to sell and install a catlytic converter. If you buy cats out of a magazine or with a new H-pipe, you will notice that those companies use a disclaimer that always says "parts intended for use in CA may not be legal!" Or something to that effect. That covers their ass for selling you something not covered by CA law. But who can really tell when the sniffer is up the pipe anyway [Smile]

Oh yeah, and this shop charges 189 per cat installed. Silly? Yes, but buying cats is expensive anyway.
