hey guys i just wanted to get some input or what gears i should get 3:55 or 3:73 i drive about 20 miles round trip to and from work everyday and then a little bit more in the evening time. i have a 2001 gt so LMK what you guys think. ohhhhand what size gears does my car have stock ? thanks

4.10's or forget it. The mod 2V 4.6's have no torque so gear is needed to really get them moving. You have a good overdrive, use it. Ask bunchmyfunky, he drives 50+ miles one way to work in his regularly w/ 4.10's.

Think you have 3.27's stock.

I just got 3.73's done in my car. Broke em in right *drove to cache creek at only 60-65 =(* Got on it in first gear, and I freakin love my car all over again. Gas mileage sucks on the freeway, imagine what 4.10's will do. Just my opinion. At 70 i'm tacking at 2200 rpms from my stock 2000 rpms with 3.27's.

Is yours an auto or manual?

If you're going to stay N/A go with 4.10's. If you plan on going with a blower later, 3.55's. My buddy is running 3.73's on his '02 GT with a P1-SC, and he's almost running out of gear in the 1/4.

wow thats almost idle. 200 rpm's makes no dff in mileage , my notch used to tach 3 grand at about 70

well worth it IMO...you can't have your cake and eat it too...go for speed or mpg..take your pick

2nd the 4.10's

chuck...

you know my opinion already!

4.10s [Wink]

4.10s is 300rpm higher then 3.73s and 600rpms higher then 3.27s. I didn't notice any change in mpg.

I got 3.55's. I didn't want that much extra RPM all the time so I said no to 3.73+. Woke the car up quite a bit.

4.10's are tire shredders if you're heavy handed with the throttle.

I dunno the first engine I built had 3.5:1 and I got 14mpg and wasn't terribly impressed with the additional performance. I went to smaller cubic inches 2.75:1 gears and a 6 speed. I can vulcanize pavement in the 1st three gears and get 21 mpg in the trip to Reno, NV and return.

The 6 speed essentially gives the extra torque multiplication.

Stock is 3.27 and it all depends on what your plans are for car use. do you want to blow guys on freeway away or race from stop sign to stop sign? Im a freeway guy myself, and wont get rid of the 3.27, they are wonderful with alot of HP behind them, I have no bottom end torque problems and blow guys off the line as well. I would sugest that you make up your mind if you want a faster car and start with the engine or forget it. Your foundation is the engine the rest is just bells and whistles. I used HCI motorsports in Sacramento to build me a modular capable of 800 HP but boosted down to 13 psi for a decent 540 RWHP. Givem a call they are great guys 1-916-643-2280.

check out my site www.freewebs.com/raceerx

My car stats:
HCI GT Motor bored 30k,cobra crank, oil pump, CP pistons, Patriot heads and cams (274 duration). Vortech supercharger and after cooler, Snow performance water injection, cobra fuel tank with twin focus pumps, 42 lb injectors, 99 lightning mass air, CDC side exhaust, Dynomax super turbo mufflers, Bassani mid length headers and x-pipes, spec 3 stage 2 clutch, anderson cold pipe with K&N (the shaker hood assists) with a SCT tuner. Its at dyno right now and is estimated will be finished soon at close to 600 hp with fuel upgrades.

yes now a days you can have your cake and eat it too.
4.30's and a viper 6speed with a .50 od!

You just have to pay for it thats all.

4.10s definately...

3.73s are good for a while but you'll want to change eventually.
